Day 3 and feeling horrible

Recommended Posts

Everyone seems so up beat here. I've got to say, being only 3 days post op, I surely didn't expect it to be this hard. I have a high pain tolerance and could probably deal with the pain, but the nausea is killing me. I ma drinking my liquids, but I'm sure not enough becaue my mouth is EXTREMELY dry. I just can't seem to get to feeling better. I am not one to sit around, so I am ready toget up and get on with mye life but this surgery is kicking me butt. Please tell me this is going to get better soon.

I was banded on March 9th and also has had extreme nausea and vomiting due to an intolerance of the liquid vicodin my dr prescribed an antinausea medicine and switched to liquid tylenol and codiene and was better in a day I found that sucking on ice chips was a life saver its all I could keep down the first 24 hours :/ Might it be the pain meds making you so nauseated ? perhaps you can call your dr and ask for some antinausea meds to get you thru rhis rough time I hope you start feling better.

As far as the pain, I was much better on day 3 than on day 1. Is it like that for you, you're feeling better than the first day? I'm on day 6, I've lost 15 lbs, have been completely fatigued by night time, but I'm doing much better. I actually walked my kids to a playground the other day, very slow walk, but a walk I didn't feel like I could have done a day prior. I'm not dealing with hunger issues so much as that mental desire to chew something, especially when I'm fixing Breakfast and dinner for my kids lol.

So yes it has gotten better. My pain level right now, on the 1-10 scale is about a 1.

Believe me it will get better. I was banded on March 8th and i too thought it was rough until i gradually started to feel better. Hang on in there.

My doc put a scopalomine patch on me before surgery and I had no issues with nausea. Only problem is I forgot it was on and found put it was the reason my vision was off. I would ask your dic about a nausea patch if you're that nauseas

It took me a good four to five days to really start to feel better. Hang in their, call the doctor and see if they can give you something for nausea or switch your pain medicine. Stay ahead of the pain...take your medicine on time, etc.

Thanks for all of your input. I am taking Hydrocodone for pain, which is liquid and the taste of it makes me want to throw up in itself. He did give me phergan for nausea. The pain is somewhat better than yesterday, and I thought the nausea was too when I first got up, but now it's coming back. Guess I will just have to stay strong and see this through another few days. I will try backing off the pain meds if I can to see if that helps the nausea.

Thanks everyone!

for some reason, day 3 was my worst day. i kept wondering if i had made a huge mistake (totally normal and common, apparently) and i was just shocked by how difficult the surgery was. i did it as outpatient surgery and didn't think it would be a huge deal. but by day 4 and 5 i felt dramatically better. it's hard to sit around and do nothing. i couldn't even concentrate enough to read. couple of good movies and some magazines helped. you'll feel better soon!

The pain gets better and better each day. Day 2 and 3 were my worse but from there it got less and less. I'm on day 15 and still have some port site soreness and shoulder gas pain but that's it. Hope you feel better soon!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
