Lifting and Exercise?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering when I can start picking up my 2 year old again? It would make things move much faster, especially in the morning!

Also, when did your Dr. say you can start exercising? I don't mean walking, I mean getting a persoal trainer kind of working out. I am so motivated and ready to go but my doctor says 4-6 weeks. I'm only 3 weeks out! (Who would have thought I'd be wanting to exercise! Yay me!)

Thanks!

Stick with your doctors orders! See if you can bottle that energy and save it for when you are allowed to work out. Walking doesn't hurt at all... Maybe you can do that until you have clearance.

I've been walking everyday, just feel ready to do more. I am planning to follow my doctors orders but I was just curious what others say. Thanks!

I'm two weeks out. My surgeon said I can do cardio for now, nothing too strenuous and no lifting until my next appointment in 4 weeks.

Oh man, I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. I'm 5 1/2 weeks out, and I started picking up my daughter (2 1/2 years old, almost 30lbs) at about 2 weeks out. Bad decision, my incisions started bleeding and the surgeon had to redo some of them in his office (painful)! But, I started light cardio 1 week out, and they won't let me do any high intesity training until 6 weeks out. And again, I jumped the gun, started doing the p90x workout a few days ago, and now I see why they told me to avoid that until at least 6 weeks. Painful! It's not like the pain you feel from a good workout, my port site has been bruised for the last couple of days. I called the doctor, he said I can do any workout that does not include heavy abdominal use, and to WAIT until the 6 weeks is up for that. We think we're healed because our scars are closed, but what's going on inside is far different from what's going on outside.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
