How do you know when your current fill is enough?

Recommended Posts

I just got my first fill about a week ago (4cc in a 10cc) band. I get real hungry. liquids help me satiate this hunger a bit. When I eat, I don't get a full feeling. I limit the quantity that I eat and usually feel more full after about 20 minutes after eating. I then get hungry 1-3 hours later. On that basis I figure I need another fill.

On the other hand, I get this relatively full feeling with a much smaller quatity than I used to eat. In addition, I had one slice of thin and crispy pizza yesterday and immediately felt like I was stuffed (and stuck)",.

I go back to the doctor for another fill in a week and a half. I presume I should get another fill.

That said, I don't want to be one of those unlucky people who get overfilled and can't keep Water down.

Advice? Perspectives?

I have had 4 fills since being banded last April. The first 3 gave me good restriction for a few days, until the swelling came down. I could eat less but not nearly as little as I thought I was going to be able to eat.

I had my 4th fill the week of Feb 21st because I was going on a cruise. The surgeon asked if I wanted to be aggressive to which my reply was, "fill me up!" Now I get full after a few bites if I do not drink the during the meal. If I drink I can eat larger portions but still nowhere near what I ate before being banded. Any type of bread sends me to the toilet or into a panic attack. I LOVE THIS!

I've lost 10 lbs this month with this fill and now it is finally started to let up. If I eat something small for Breakfast I can eat significantly more during the remainder of the day. I want another fill now before my next vacation.

I too get hungry after only a few hours but I realize for me it is head hunger. Say yesterday I had a lean cuisine for lunch and kept it down. 2 hours later I went for some potato chips because I was hungry. Ate a few chips and threw them up because I was not really hungry. I was bored and getting tired so my head wanted something to do.

Since this last adjustment I am frequently tired because I am not getting as many calories. But slowly my body perks up when it starts using stored fat I guess.

Well... it sounds like you mnight need a fill. I wouldnt let getting a bit full and stuck on pizza deter you - as you get more restriction you will get that instantly with some foods even though you've not had enough and will be hungry later. if you get full and a bit stuck feeling on a proper meal - not that you shouldnt ever eat pizza but its a "difficult" food - if you get full on say a grilled chicken breast and vegies and stay full, then you have enough fill. But with restriction, you can get really full feeling on one mouthful if its a hard food for you, if that makes any sense.

And yes, head hunger will escalate two or three hours after a meal, as you start to be not full, but if its not actual physical hunger, then that can be difficult because a good fill can help to dampen down that head hunger a bit as well, but probably wont ever eliminate it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
