When will I need smaller clothes?

Recommended Posts

I have lost 36lbs and still wear the same size. I would have thought I would be a size smaller by now.

I wear a size 26 pants and have room in them now. I went to the store to buy smaller ones and found I dont fit in a 24. I pulled a 26 from the rack and tried them on. They fit fine, so I realized I must have stretched them out over time.

I have lost 10% of my body weight which is a decent amount.

Can someone my size give me an idea when they dropped a size?

I bet in 10 more pounds or so you will see a huge difference!

My clothes fit the same until I hit 35 pounds lost. But I was a little smaller and by that I was a size 22.

I'm smaller than you, but in the same boat. My jeans must have streached because they are huge. I can pull them off w/o unzipping them, but I can't fit in the next smaller size!! I refuse to buy more 'fat jeans' , so I have added a belt... :P

I'm finding that the numbers on the scale going down don't match my size in clothes going down.

I've just gone down another size however the scales didn't move. Also that same week everyone noticed I had lost more weight-even though I hadn't on the scale!

It seems like my body shapes changes a few weeks later.

Well done on your loss so far and you'll notice a big difference in your clothes soon.

Soon! I wondered the same thing then all of a sudden it seemed like my clothes size went down three or four sizes overnight. I think it must take time for the body to shrink on the outside after losing weight because the scale is going down and the clothes size remains the same. When it happened, though, it happened really quick. I'm now down 6 clothing sizes and just splurged last weekend on some nice new clothes. What's interesting is all of a sudden people say Oh my gosh, you lost so much weight! The funny thing to me is I had been losing all along but the new fitted clothes made a difference.

Good luck, 36 pounds is significant and you're clothing size shrinkage will soon follow! WAY TO GO!!! :)

I think it depends on body types, starting weights, exercise etc. We are all built differently and lose it differently. I have lost 40 all together and was wearing size 24/26. The last jeans I had bought were 2 pairs of size 26 from lane bryant that I wore all the time. They didn't fit tight like 24's and were comfortable. For my birthday March 7th, I went back to lane bryant to look for an outfit for gatlinburg for the first of April. I bought a pair of size 18's. They were tight but they fit and hoping by the time of the trip they fit comfortably. It did happen pretty quickly though.. It was one day my pants are getting baggy and the next I couldn't keep my pants up they just kept falling down.

I agree you have had great weight loss and it will be soon but If you think your pants are stretched then actually you have lost a least a size and more sizes are soon to come..

Congratulations on your weight loss!!

My own 'size' stayed for months until suddenly I dropped from 56/58 pants to 48. The XXXXL t-shirts suddenly became XXL too loose....and now XL is my standard with a few Ls fitting about 2 years postOp.

Within about 10 months of my own Band, I was boxing up stuff to send back to Omar the Tent Maker. It was also a shock to find there are stores out there that don't even have an XXX+ section.....AND that ~I~ could shop there even without ID!!!

I went through the same thing. With plus size clothing it takes more weight to go down a size than in "regular sizes." It took me losing my first 40 pounds to go down a size in jeans. It was really disappointing and discouraging to find this out. On top of that I didn't realize that the 18W I was fitting into before the surgery is actually a size 24. I just thought I was a size 18. So after losing a little weight I thought I could fit into a size 16 in the non plus size section and was horrified that I couldn't even get them over my knees. I fit in to my first size 14 jeans at Calvin Kline the other day. They fit comfortably but I don't ever seem to want to wear them because I think they will be to tight. I better start wearing them before they get too big.

I didn't drop clothes sizes until about 40 pounds. But what made the biggest change was when I started exercising. Then I started dropping sizes quickly. I've gone from 18-20 to 12. Hang in there, it will happen!

It all depends on your body shape and exercise. I've lost about 45lbs and I'm down 2 pants sizes (well I was a very large 22, now I'm a normal 18), and 2 shirt sizes (I had a large 18-20, now I fit good in 14/16)

I wore my big clothes till about last week, I wore some yesterday and I looked ridiculous LOL. Pants I've had to get new ones, shirts.. I've pretty much kept the same, they don't fall off like pants do.

In my experience, that saying that you will go down a size with every 10 lbs lost is bull! I have lost 53 lbs and am down from a very tight size 28 to a 22 in pants, for tops I dm Dow from a 26/38 to a 18/20. I think the thing that has helped me the most is exercise. I am a classic pear shape and exercise is helping to reshape my butt and hips which I think is helping me go down in pants sizes quicker than usual.

Hang in there...you are doing great!! The clothes sizes will start going down soon!

This is a hard one. I have gone down a pant size but have not lost anything in 2 weeks. I do swim everyday but was doing that presurgery as well.

On the other side of clothing size changes......just how long did it take to *go*UP*** a size or two? A few weeks is pretty short time to be concerned of size changes.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
