Can you feel/see your port?

Recommended Posts

I can feel my port, but can't see it. It's located in the center of my torso about 1-2" below my sternum. My BMI is 24 now, so I'm pretty sure the port is in a good place where it won't show if I drop a few more pounds. It doesn't really creep me out at this point. It is kind of like having an extra little body part that I'm used to now.

I was just telling my surgeon during my fill yesterday that my port is great for my posture - I can feel it when I am slouching, and since it kind of creeps me out, I tend not to slouch anymore! He laughed :P

My doc uses low profile ports as a general rule. I am too scared to try to feel it under my skin - I think it might freak me out! I definitely can't see it but I still have 70 pounds to lose.

Right now my port is about the size of an egg about 3 inches above my belly button. I can feel it, I can see it, and it sort of creeps me out. Doc said that the lump will go away some. Hrrrrmmm... I guess I didn't read enough to understand how this works. There aren't any parts sticking out of me. Hahaha! I think it's something I'll get used to, though the hernia is right to the left of it, so I have to be careful.

No worries man, it's all part of the deal.

Hi Everyone! Thanks for all the great responses...glad to hear others can feel and see the port. And that some are a little creeped out. I agree its a small price to pay for getting healthy. I only had the surgery about 6 weeks ago so maybe i'll get used to it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
