Hello!

I am Amber i am 24, and 236 at the doctors office. (depends on the day) my Bmi is 38. When i talked to blue cross they said i had to have the 6 month or be 50 bmi. So question i have is what happens if you lose a bunch of weight on your doctors diet, will you be disqualified from the surgery? That would break my heart. 5 months in and have them be like well sorry Amber you did so good you don't need it now! (i know it sounds twisted) What sort of questions should i ask my doctor, how should i bring it up to her? She is like a size 0. I see her on Monday. How did u all talk to your doctors? Also note i am on blood thinners, though i read that won't be an issue. Anything else i am missing to ask? Help me out?

Thank you all in advance. I can't wait to help someone else out in the future.

Your weight and BMI from the start of the process is what will be submitted to your insurance. I worried about the same thing and it was no problem. I lost 12 pounds prior to surgery and it was still approved. My starting BMI was 37 and I was at 35 when my surgeon submitted to my insurance company. You'll do fine. As far as talking to your doctor -- mine actually suggested the surgery option to me and supported my effort to get the surgery. Good luck and don't lose hope. Use the 6 months to get your head together to prepare for what the surgery and life afterwards will be like.

Thanks for responding! Its good to know that it is okay to lose some weight before you lose the surgery. It would be silly to be penalized. Thinking about the 6 months i am feeling that way, getting my head together, and prepared. Plus i can enjoy the summer =) That is great that yours supported your surgery option, i talked to my therapist today and she gave me the pros and cons and tried to see why i wanted it, and at the end she said that it sounded very valid to her, and she is against it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
