No Restriction, Left Abdominal Pain

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I was banded Oct 15 2010 and I've lost 44 lbs (100 more to go). Normally as I'm eating a meal I get tightness even with shakes, little bites, 1 minute between intake, etc. It's a good pressure gauge and helps me be vigilant about eating less than a cup of food at dinner. Breakfast and lunch are typically Protein Shakes or tuna.< /p>

However, while on business travel the team grabbed a burger and I ate the bottom part of the bum. I confess, I was testing the band because I have really missed hamburgers. 1/2 a bun only has 100 calories and being that I'm at about 900 a day I figured I can take a testride.

Well ... I was in awful pain for about an hour, even considered going to the ER, and went to the hotel. I got on the treadmill and walked off the pain. I'm sure it was the bread passing through. Then suddently, the pain was gone. Later that evening and through to today (5 days now) I have a dull and acheing pain in the left side of my abdomen. Mornings are the worst. It's a pain like I've pulled my muscle. Not enough for me to buckle over, but I do notice it. I have no vomitting, and no acid reflux.

Even though the pain is there, I'm most concerned that I no longer have that pressure gauge that I used to have. I've scoured this forum about the band "slipping" and that sounds like it goes downwards causing the stomach to bulge over. But folks describe severe acid reflux. But can the band slip upwards where it's not restricting anything at all???? I'm just curious as to why I have no pressure even in the morning with my egg/whey-protein shake like I used to.

I'm not testing the band ever again and resumed my normal eating patterns. Since I'm not in any awful pain I'm waiting to get an appt with my doctor. But I'm just curious now if other bandsters have experienced this and what their solutions were. I'd feel like a total fool if I broke my band.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
