Hey, get your courage together. You can do it. All you have to tell yourself is, "How badly do I want to lose my excess weight? Have I been successful up to this point?" My answer to myself to these questions was a BIG NO! I was apprehensive like you. I was just banded four days ago (3/7). My, and your, determination will get you through it. Hang in there. You can do it!

My surgeon told me that if your not scared they would be worried that something is wrong. Good Luck

I got a similar call that I was approved and they set my surgery date at April 11th. I had the same emotions that you had. I am scared and nervous and happy all at the same time.

Honey i am nervous and i just started this process. I think it is scary because you are getting surgery which is a big deal, you are having to adapt a new life style. But what you have to remember is that it is all for you. To live a better, happier, healthier, longer life. Plus you are surrounded with support here :) Good luck and i am jealous! I still have a ways to go!

On the morning of my surgery (03/07/2011) I was still not sold on the idea of having a lap band (is that crazy or what?). I was sitting with my kids before school watching them eat Breakfast and thinking...I can't believe I am going to do this. However, I am almost 4 weeks post-op now and KNOW that I made the right decision. I yo-yo dieted for so many years. I know how to LOSE weight, I just can't keep it off. I feel like I now have a control in place (the band) to help me when I fall off the wagon and decide to eat everything in sight. I know my apprehension was from being afraid of the unknown -- how will the surgery / recovery be...what will I feel like afterward / etc. Just remember you are doing this for yourself and it will benefit your family and friends too. If you have co-morbidities like diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. you will be prolonging your life and improving your quality of life by losing the weight. You can do it!!

I was banded 3 weeks ago. I had the same fears. I was second guessing myself even as I lay there prepped for surgery and waiting to be taken back. For a moment I thought "just jump off the table it's not too late". But then if I did that I would just be going back to a life of clothes getting tighter and tighter and watching the scale go up and up again. I had lost all hope of ever being thin. Now 3 weeks post op and 22lbs lighter I know I made the right decision. I don't feel the band inside or the port. I sleep comfortably on my side or stomach. I feel so much energy and excitement every day. I also remember worrying about what I was not going to be able to eat again. Oh the pizza, oh the hamburger, and the diet coke. don't miss them at all. The band has taken away the constant thinking about food for me. I have to remind myself to eat. I happily weigh my 4oz meal and then I'm satisfied. No growling stomach no snacking. It's all been worth it!

I was also a yoyo dieter and now with the band though i didn't lose that much last year - i don't gain anything back. Sometimes i put on a few pounds but with 1 or 2 days of watching what i eat i am back down to where i should be. I have been away from this board for a while and at times felt maybe i wasted my money. I feel reinvigorated and coming to this forum and reading all sorts of posts really helps a lot a lot.

I did throw up!!! I went for my surgery date Tuesday April 12 and they had a cancel so it was scheduled for April 13th the next day!!! They found problems so I am still not able to keep anything down but this will get better. I hope up until now you have followed your instructions that include reducing the size of your liver which is often present when you are over weight.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
