I was banded on Jan. 13th 2011. I started my pre op on the 2nd of Jan. Just wandering how others are doing with their weight loss. I am down but not sure if I'm doing good or not. I was told at one time that they didn't think I would be down 23lbs by June. I am already plus some. I am at 2cc's (just ahd my first fill last week.)

What is the normal? I guess it really depends from one person to the next..... I want to loose about 70 -75lbs.

Any suggestions?? Help??

Thanks!!!

I got my band 01/07/11 pre op started 12/31/11.. I am down 20 pounds I think it really just depends on each individual person. What kind of food do you eat?

The normal range of weightloss a week with the band is 1-2lbs. Some weeks you will lose in this range, some weeks above, it, some weeks below it, and some weeks you won't lose a thing.

Remember that your journey is your own, and you won't lose like anyone else on here. Our bodies are entirely different from the next, so I'd advise not comparing your weightloss amounts to others as we all lose at different paces.

Yea I lose about 1-2lbs a week, if I had to do liquids for some reason it goes up a little bit. But generally no more than that.

Just make sure you eat around 1200 calories a day and exercise, thats all.

I ate like this for a long time and lost a lot, though I eventually stalled for a few weeks and decided to up my calories. Since I'm doing pretty intense workouts I'm eating 1300 calories a day at the least. Is there any reason you're only eating 4oz? Is that what fills you up? I eat 4oz of meat a meal, crazy!! As long as you're losing I say go for it. Your protein is at a great level as well. Just remember we all lose at different rates eating different things though I'd be hesitant to stick to eating 630 calories a day.

I started prep diet Jan 20,lost 19 lb pre op. Banded feb 10. Have lost another 9. But haven't lost any in 3 days. Am not really counting calories, but am definitely not eating more than I should. I guess that is good. Don't go for fill till march 22. Thinking that is a little far off. But I guess the soca know best.

Honsetly, I don't count calories. I have been losing about 1lb a since my fill last Wed. I think that I'm doing ok with everything. My doc told me that 2 to 3 meals a day are fine but nothing more than that and no snacking what so ever.

Thanks for the input! :o)

i was told by surgeon and nutritionist, to eat only 3 meals a day and only 4oz at a time.. i have no fills at this time..im empty!!! even in all the seminars and support groups i went to said 4 oz meals 3 times a day!!! so im doing my best to do what they say.. and sometimes i don't want to eat.... very strange for me..lol..some days i eat less then that!!

yea there was a earlier post from me, on the weight i lost and how much i eat at a time!!

Cliff, just to give you an idea that there are different schools of thought about this: I've been advised by my surgeon's team to eat small meals as often as I get hungry, as long as they're planned and nutritous meals. For me, that's about every four hours. So I eat about five times a day. Some meals are a bit heavier than others, but the goal for me is to maintain my blood sugar balance, and to get my nutrition in. I eat about 1200 to 1500 calories a day, about 100g of Protein, and about 60g of carbs. I work out 30 to 60 minutes a day. My goal is to have about 1000 calories a day deficit, which equals about 2 pounds a week weight loss. It's working very well for me.

I think the minimal diet you're on is fine, as long as you're healthy and losing on it. It wasn't enough nutrition for me, and after I bumped my nutrition numbers up, my weight loss started moving downward again. I've found having the Bodymedia.com armband (aka Bodybugg) has been an excellent tool for me to track my meals, exercise, and sleeping habits. This is the same kind of band the contestants wear on The BIggest Loser. It really works.

Good luck!

Dave

I'm keeping my calorie intake between 800 - 1,000 per day and get on the treadmill 3 - 4 times week or do my Leslie Sansone 3 mile walking DVD. I was banded on 12/27/10 and have had NO fills yet. I'm down 32 pounds. My doc says I'm doing great and no fills while I'm still losing 1 - 2 pounds week. I'm honestly a little worried because I'm starting to feel like I could be eating more than I am and feel like it's all will power now... hmmmmmmmmmmm

I was banded 12/2/10 and have lost 31 lbs. I have had 2 fills totalling 4.5ccs in a 10cc band and could probably use another small fill since this is the first week I haven't lost any weight.

After my band tightened from my last fill, I'm eating about 800-900 calories per day. I used to eat 1200. For me, the difference is in the fats and cutting back slightly.

When I was eating 1200, I'd eat 2 eggs and 2 sl bacon in just a bit of butter for Breakfast, lunch and dinner were 3 oz of Protein with vegies or salad using butter on the vegies or full fat dressing on the salad. I also use half and half in my coffee (about 1 Tbs per mug) and had 2-3 cups per day.

Since my band tightened, not only am I not hungry but I don't even have the desire to eat but I know I have to. So now Breakfast is 1 egg in .1 oz butter, lunch and dinner are 3 oz Protein and a small salad with full fat dressing. I'm only drinking one cup of coffee (with the cream) now and the rest of the time it's Decaf tea, plain. I wasn't trying to do that...it's just what I feel like eating.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
