Getting Banded 3/3!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I just got the call that I'm set for surgery on 3/3 at 10:00. I'm so excited and so nervous!!!! My pre-op diet starts this Thursday (for two weeks) and consists only of high Protein Drinks totaling 800 cal/day. Does anyone have any advice to keep the hunger pangs away during this time? That's what I'm most nervous about and I do not want to cheat.

I would suggest spreading your calories through out the day as much as possible to prevent your blood suger dropping.

i'm trying to be very optimistic like...yay... i get to drink 800 calories a day.. **major fake enthusiasm** but after shopping last night I think I can trick myself. I bought some strawberry flavored Atkins shakes, vanilla flavored lite muscle milk shakes, and some chocolate whey Protein Powder that is Jillian Michaels brand. I could not find Slim Fast high Protein anywhere, but these all had high protein and low carbs. If I drink one of the adkins or muscle milks each day, then I can drink FIVE of the Jillian Michaels brand shakes and stay within my 800 calories so maybe I can psych myself out by pretending i'm consuming sooo much when I'm really not LOL we'll see, I start pre-op diet tomorrow.

Keep busy. Believe me that it helps keep your mind off "I can't eat" and helps. When I feel like I am getting hungry and it isn't time for my shake I have broth or Jello, or sometimes, both. I also will do something. Whether it is laundry, cleaning or exercise. Something to get my mind off of what my head is telling me. This gives me time to listen to my body and see what it is telling me. 9 times out of 10 I am NOT hungry, my mind just tells me I am.

It is work but I am sure that you will do great!! Congrats on the surgery date!!

I will be starting mine on 2/21, but I've been doing for 2 months 4 shakes a day and an a lean meat an vegi for dinner. Its about 700-800 cals a day. It was really hard the first week and yes i was hungry, but after the hunger pains subside(your stomach shrinking I think) the last week should be ok. Plus I heard to put a calender up for the two wks and cross out each day just to give yourself an accomplishment sort of feeling. good luck!

alright so 4 days into the pre-op diet and it still just sucks. The no carb headaches are so bad that I usually have to go to sleep to get rid of them and I normally get salty cravings. It would be wonderful if I could chew something, and it would be more wonderful if I could chew something salty. I have no advice on how the pre-op diet could be easier, I am quite ticked off that I can only "drink" 800 calories a day when I see others that can incorporate broth and lean Protein meats :-(

My doctor said vegetable juice is ok while on the liquid diet. Since you are craving something salty, a V8 in between meals might help (only 50 calories). I am glad you said something about carb headaches...I've been having headaches (I'm on day 4 today) and didn't know exactly why but now it makes sense. Also, I think I've been grieving food more than being hungry :( Good luck and hang in there!

agreed Dragonfy Yogi! All I can chew is gum and it's getting old lol I keep talking about someone should make a savory gum and all of my friends just gag haha

I had an upper endoscopy on Monday to see if I had any hernias or ulcers and all was free and clear. I must have been mumbling a lot because when the doctor came out to tell my husband how it went he said I was mumbling about eating something salty lol now I can have 6 ounces of chicken or fish a day if i need it.. HALLELUIA. Thus far, i've only had 6 oz of fish on the days i teach Zumba because it's such a workout.

My diet from my surgeon now consists of:

Protein shakes

Water (non carbonated)

6 oz of chicken or fish only if i need it and to be discontinued 3 days prior to my surgery

I have to say day 7 of pre-op surgery with the chewable food added I feel much much better about the whole thing. The carb headaches seem to be going away, but i'm also taking tylenol when i feel one coming.

8 more days to band land!

3 days away and I'm in the final stretch...I'm starting to get very nervous that I've made the right decision. I guess it's definitely getting real and I'm getting "real" nervous :-(

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
