Most people are going to tell you to stick to the doctors orders.

I didn't and was fine. But everyone is diffrent.

If you go to mushies a little early i would make them really runny. The easier you are on your stomach

they easier it will be to tolerate solids.

mashed potatoes wont keep you full for long. I would try more protien shakes

sip them ( they can take up to 30 minutes to give you a full sensation. If you still aren;t

sure call your doctors office. Im sure the nurse will give you some good info. Good luck.

My Dr has me doing 1 wk full liquids and then moving to mushies for the second week. I am one week today so I have been incorp mushy food like cottage cheese and tuna fish. I am still hungry too so I added an extra Protein shake and that seems to help.

Check with your Dr or nutritionist and see what they would recommend.

Keep us posted.

Also wondering when the hungry feelings go away....:(

Just get in your protein! If you are on liquids have at least 60+ grams in shakes. That should be 3-4 shakes a day. Try bean and bacon Soup pureed that has a lot of Protein. If you are adding in mushies be careful, and make sure it's Protein rich (I would aim for tuna, cottage cheese and chili, before I'd go for mashed potatoes). The first few weeks, just suck.. that's how it is, but you can do it!

Pay attention to your body, make sure you aren't just bored, or sad you can't eat. Distract yourself. The fills are to help you with hunger, that is what they are for :)

Did your doctor give you a schedule to follow? I saw mine at 1 week, and don't see him again until week 7. By then I will be on regular food.< /p>

So glad to hear others banded about same time as me. I hadn't thot I could have tuna, so that was cool to read. pureed meat......yum. I got hungry some today and think the idea of continuing a shake with the mushy foods is great for that. shakes really work.

Hi. Did you doctor give you a schedule on when to move through the stages? I was on clear liquids for 7 days, full liquids 7 days, Musies cottage/ricotta cheese 7 days, could add egg whites the next week; then finallly to solids. Personally unless your doctor approves moving to mushies I would stay at full liquids until day 15. To control hunger I had Soup (broth and then tomato) and a hour later a Protein Shake. If you need something before your next "meal" you could have a cup of broth. FYI I had a check up at day 12 and asked if I could move to mushies 2 days early the nurse said "ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!".

Thank you! I just felt like I was going to make really bad choices if I did not put something "solid" into my stomach! Isn't it horrible how addicted we have become?! This should not be this hard...

Thank you everyone. I have been on Protein Shakes with added Proteins throughout the day.,Broths with added Protein, crystal light with added protein, and as much Water as I can handle lol. I just think it is the mental part of NOT BEING ABLE TO CHEW that I am having the WORST time with. I know it will get easier but right now I am off from work and my husband works nights so I have 12 hours of alone time a day...I walk as much as I can and do little things to keep me distracted but it is very hard. I will get through with help from you all! Thanks for your replies!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
