March 2011 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

i think the idea of the pre op diet is to reduce the size of your liver so its easier for the surgeon to see without heaps of fat dripping down. i had to lose at least 3kg before i was allowed surgery lucky for me i lost exactly 3kg so i didnt have to postpone.

5 days to go-Thursday morning at 7:30 is my time. I did have a little grilled chicken and salad yesterday-couldn't stand the reflux and heartburn anymore. I now have 4 different kinds of Protein Powder to drink to see which one won't give me the reflux and heartburn. Thanks for the suggestion of trying different kinds. My weight is still going down which is great-will keep drinking my Water and keep trying with all the liquids. A few days to the start of my new life!! Thanks everyone for their support.

Did anyone else have a hyadle hernia repaired with their lap-band surgery? I still have gas trapped and every time it comes to the top It stops and I get this terrible pressure in my chest and then it goes back down. I cant seem to burp to get it out.

Hey everyone!!! Glad to see everyone is doing pretty well. Congrats to those recently banded. I can't believe March in almost over and we'll all be official "March Bandsters". I'm going back to work tomorrow and not excited about it but I was kinda getting bored at home. So far I'm down 22 pounds (give or take). To those who will be banded this week congrats and good luck!!

Greeting

I too have a March 16 date for my band. My pre-op diet in 3 weeks in length with 5 Meal Replacement drinks and 3 glasses of milk. This will give me about 80 grams of Protein. I have practiced over the last month with 2 Meal Replacements - Breakfast and lunch - and a small dinner. I am ready for the 3 week pro-op liquid diet. All the best with your Optifast liquid diet.< /p>

I was banded on Mar 15,,, had my first pre-op and was down only 7 pounds,,, but I had to first lose all of the weight from the IVs. I am not disappointed at all. Am going back to work tomorrow, but not sure how I will get along without my afternoon nap,,,LOL,,, I did have a scrambled egg with cheese for Breakfast and ate the whole thing. Will be on soft - pureed foods for the next 10 days,,, and will go back on April 20 for my first fill. Things have been pretty uneventful for me which is a good thing!!! I do love to read all of the postings out here to find out what everyone else is going thru,,, thanks to you all for the info,,, and good luck to all who w3ill be banded in the near future. Have a great day!!!!!

I have the same issue, if it does actually come out, my chest tightens up so i have to take a slow deep breath! and it sucks!!! and as of last night if i lay on my back still somewhat propt up, I get the same tightness/pain too, I just take deep breaths and it helps a little but still is very uncomfortable!! It feels a little better if I sit up and walk a little but not much! I cant wait till I feel 100% normal again!

I'm scheduled to have my surgery on March 31st. I don't have to have a pre-op diet. I didn't find out that I was to get my surgery until late last week.

Thanks grni77 for posting that! I was banded March 24th.. and im having the same problem and thought it was normal. Last night I was finally able to pass gas and im already feeling better. But im still having a hard time with the bubble that's coming up then going back down, then there's a large pressure on my upper chest and I have to take a few deep breaths before it goes away. Obviously I have to wait until tomorrow morning to call my drs office and get some answers. Im really hoping they'll have an easy remedy. For the two of you, were you having this problem on the post op clear liquid diet? That's what im on. Nothing but Isopure and water.. I could have other things but honestly that is hard enough to get down. Surgery day I was down 13 pounds, and I've lost another 6lbs since being home. Is anyone else having lots of back pain? Im about out of the liquid vicodin they perscribed and im kinda scared of how ill cope when its gone. Any info would be appreciated!

:rolleyes:Can we just say that Protein ICE CREAM is wonderful on the pre-op diet. And thanks everyone for the suggestions of how to solve the heartburn and reflux issues I have been having. I bought the chocolate Silk and vanilla Silk milk and made the icecream with that and NO problems!!!! YEAH and YUM!!! Everyone should check out the "world according to eggface" That is where I found the ice cream recipe and it was delicious and prefectly allowed on the pre-op phase of our plan. Just a few days to go and off to my new life. Thanks again everyone!!

I've talked to my Dr. and it's just the gas it's going to take time for your body to obsorb it or pass it.

Hey all!

I'm a March bandster as well. I was banded with a Realize Band on March 22. Weighed in at 312 at P.A.T. on the 14th. On the 22nd I had dropped 10 pounds (the secret is I was mid cycle when I had pre-op testing :P).

I've been healing up pretty text book. I don't have nausea, just a "blah" feeling when it comes to food. Ive only been hungry a few times and I eat a few bites and I am done. I think I am still pretty swollen so I'm just taking it in stride.

Im struggling with Water intake and Protein. shakes are like swallowing cement ! I go back to work on Tuesday so lets hope that changes... I need energy !

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
