First day post-op any hints?

Recommended Posts

Surgery went well yesterday. Some pain around incisions alot of pain in shoulder. Using heating pad but don't want to live on strong meds but afraid regular tylenol won't be enough.

Having trouble drinking much. Supposed to drink 2 bottles a day of the clear Protein Drinks but have to really force myself to drink any.

Any have any helpful hints to get through first few days?

Thanks!

Use the strong drugs. I only needed them for 3 days. You'll feel better before you know it. Sip sip sip.

I recommend using your pain meds. I was on mine for 2-3 days and then just sort of dealt with the left over pain. Walk as much as you can. Try using Gas-X strips for the gas problem. Sip Water when you can but don't push yourself. Most importantly, REST!!

Thanks. I took the meds. It helped alot and of course knocked me out but I needed it only slept for about 3 hours last night. . But the shoulder pain keeps coming back and it is really bad. I've been taking the gasx strips too. I will trying walking some more and see if it helps.

I had trouble sleeping the first few nights. Keep taking the stronger meds round the clock, don't let the pain take over, after a few days you will be able to alternate and then will be feeling much better. Walking really helps even if it's just a walk around the house it helps especially with the gas pain in the shoulder.

Hard to drink the Protein stuff..I know. The most important thing though is not to get dehydrated...so drink what you can drink...water....or crystal light, juice...something like that.

Lots of pillows! You probably already know but sitting up can really hurt and if you are like me...I do too much on the pain meds and then make myself hurt longer. So...take it easy! Don't be bothered by housework or anything else that needs to get done,. just rest!

Rest...walk...sip....pretty much in that order...repeat as needed. :) You will feel much better soon!

Congratulations!!! :)

I am using infant's mylcon drops for the gas and it works well for me. Banded Feb 8th. Feeling better everyday.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
