Okay so this has probably been answered a thousand times and it is kinda hard to describe. I have a constant pressure directly under my sternum and goes all the way to my back. At the expensive of sounding stupid it really does feel like a band around my stomach lol. I thought you could not feel the band? This is a constant feeling and I hope it goes away as the swelling improves but I can feel it when ever I take a breath cough try to burp. Did anyone else feel like they could actually feel the band? Its very annoying and a constant ache no matter if I have just drank or ate or not for hours. Its always there.

Rachel, did you also have a hernia repaired during your surgery? I had the same feeling, and figured due to the location it could well have been the hernia stitching. Good news---IT WENT AWAY!!! Sorry, I can't remember just how long it lasted, but could have been more than a week or 2. I'm just 2 months post op and it's a distant memory!

Nope did not have to have a hernia repair. I am assuming it is the band since it hurts mostly when I feel like I have to burp and nothing comes up. Its annoying more then anything.

I just had my band placed 12 days ago and I had a similar feeling for a couple of days. I chewed a lot of GasX pills and it really helped. I was able to quit the Gas X at about day 8 and have not had that uncomfortable feeling anymore. Not sure your feeling the same thing that I was, but maybe give Gas X a try. Hope it gets better soon. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
