post surgery hell !!!

Recommended Posts

Had my lap band last Wednesday and feel like hell !!! I have actually passed out twice and went to the emergency room.ER doc did blood work and x-rays and found nothing wrong. I am hypoglycemic and I think I am not getting enough food to raise my blood sugar levels but when I talk to the surgeoens office they treat me like I am just wanting to pig out! I have severe pain in my abdomen and upper back. I feel very sick and have dark circles under my eyes and look like a cancer patient! I was told I would be walking 30 minutes a day by now. I almost didnt qualify for the procedure as I only weigh 210 and have a BMI of 36. I am having many regrets about the procedure now. Anyone else feel like this? Please help !!!

Where did you have your surgery?

Who was your Dr.?

Why did you have the surgery if you don't think 210 is very much?

It will get better, but you may need a Dr.'s help...

Buyer's Remorse. Hang in there. I had it, too. I promise it gets better. I wish you had better support from your doc's office, but I'm glad you came here.

What liquids are you drinking now? Protien drinks are essential. If you can drink a few Boosts a day, at the least, that would help alot. Egg Drop Soup is also very very good. Non-acidic fruit juices are helpful, too.

The upper back is gas pain...from the gas they use for the laporoscopic surgery. Heating pads and walking and time are the cures. Try chewing a Gas-X too. Are your BM's regular now? If you can get liquid calories in it will help clear your bowels and you will feel tons better. Glycerin suppositories are handy. Some get diarrhea though, and if that's the case for you, just keep the liquids in as much as you can.

I promisse it gets better. Don't give up yet, okay? Pretty soon you'll be posting about how much you love your band, despite the difficulties. Get some liquid protien in. Sip all day and walk as much as you can. Don't bother with the laundry or the dishes or anything else. Only you right now. (((hugs))). I promise it gets better!!

The first couple of days are always the roughest...take it slow and easy. What types of liquids did your dr say you could have. Make a protien shake and start taking small tiny sips until. I would alternate between that and Water. What liquids are you taking in right now?

Dr Benevides in Richardson Texas. I had the procedure done because of chronic high blood pressure and foot and back pain. 210 is a lot to weigh. I should be around 135 for my frame.

I have hypoglycemia as well. From reading these forums,I would try to get in those protien drinks as much as you can.

Also, are you drinking any OJ or taking glucose tablets to keep your sugar up?

I never passed out, but I felt absolutely horrible for 2 weeks. I never thought it would get better but it did. Take it really easy and let your family pamper you. Walk as often as possible without pushing yourself.

As for the pains, a Kingsize heating pad was my best friend. It was the only thing that brought my shoulders and back relief. Hang in there.

I just had a thought, your not by any chance have chronic fatigue syndrome do you? Because I have it and surgery or blood loss can result in low blood pressure, so get that checked out.

Please with CFS have weird blood vilumnes and even giving blood can result in fainting and feeling very ill for several weeks. It happened to me.

I'm in tears !! Thanks for all the support !!! Gas ex is not relieving gas pains-can I chew tums? Why did the docs office tell me I would be back to work and walking 30 minutes by now? I had an abdominal hysterectomy in March and it was easier. My stomach is sooooo bloated -it hurts!!!!!

I lead a VERY active lifestyle and have never had problems with fatigue. I ride my horses 3-5 times a week and teach riding lessons and I also work as a nanny 30 hours a week for a family with 4 very active kids. I'm not used to feeling so dizzy. Each time after I eat even just a few sips of Protein Drink I get very bloated and have a lot of pain. I tried a little {1/2 cup} of cream of chicken Soup and that didnt bother me too bad. Maybe its the Protein Drinks? I am lactose intolerant. Any suggestions?

I had terrible gas pains too and I thought it was a heart attack! I did find one thing that helped that I haven't seen mentioned on this board before. I know this sound a little crazy but when I laid down on the floor on my back and slowly started to raise on knee to my chest and then the other one my gas pains stopped within a few minutes. I remember doing this with my kids when they were babies and had terrible gas pains. The dr. told me to do the 'bicyle' thing and it always worked so I thought I would try it on myself after surgery and it worked for me too! Hope this helps.

Excellent!!! Wish I had thought of that one at the time. Great advice!

Drink more Protein, it will help with feeling light headed and the dark circles I know for my son who is a cancer patient means he is dehydrated. Hang in there, it does get better there is a light at the end of the tunnel..promise :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
