Hi, if i may ask, when were you banded? i too have 6cc's in my 14cc band! :) Actually I had 7 but i started getting port pain so i had to go back and get an unfill (-1cc). Anyway, how are you feeling? my first fill was awesome, but the 2nd one sucked butt :( ...infact i'm still experiencing port pain after i eat, so i might have to go back in tomorrow *cries* i hope everything turns out ok.

I have 6cc in a 14cc band and was banded 14 months ago. If they put 6 in all at once, just my .02...I'd wait a month for another fill or you may find yourself overfilled with all the joys of sliming and stuck episodes. I never had a reaction for 2 weeks after a fill. Then BAM...instant tightness. Unfortunately before I discovered this, I was getting fills every 2 weeks and then dealing with constant stuck and sliming episodes. At some point I was up to 8.75cc, overfilled, getting stuck on everything (except the bad things), not losing and completely miserable.

Now at 6cc I'm in a happy place although I think I may go in for another .2cc or so 'tweak' since I seem to be a bit hungrier this last week. YMMV.

I had 6 cc's as of Jan. 4, 2011 and it was too tight for me. I had to go in on the 21st and get an unfill. I was puking and sliming everything I ate up. I even had trouble getting yogurt down. My doc took 2cc's out and I feel so much better! I am able to eat good, healthy food now. I dropped from 258lbs. on Thursday to 251.2 lbs. on Sunday night just by being able to get more calories in. I think my body went into starvation mode because prior to the unfill I wasn't even able to get 500 calories a day in and then what I was able to eat came right back up. Good luck and hope you find your spot soon! It's amazing just how different this works with each individual.

Fay,

Don't look for the band to physically restrict how much you eat. It just doesn't work that way for most people unless they're willing to be overfilled and constantly stuck and sliming (but still able to eat all the bad slider foods). Look for cessation of hunger after a reasonable meal. I can eat 3 oz of Protein, 1/2 cup of vegies and 1/4 cup of starch (usually rice or potatoes because I avoid wheat products), I'm not hungry for 4 hours. Yeah sweet spot.

I get hungry before 4 hours. I eat small meals but I am not satisfied and my hunger comes back before 4-5 hours. I do not have any stuck episodes or sliming either. I hope to find my sweet spot and restriction soon :)

I decided to go more conservative with my 14cc band and don't mind taking it slow. Also...I want my band to be a tool to eat more sensible but still enjoy eating socially. Another hope is that I won't have to deal with sagging skin if I do this slow! I only got 1cc on 12/28 after being banded on 11/8/10. I am going for a followup this Thursday and will decide on either another 1cc or maybe 1.5cc. I did notice that my portions are a bit bigger but I'm not going overboard. I've been losing & gaining the same pound for 2 weeks so I think its time for a fill.

Anyone going the conservative route too?

I had 3 cc in my 14 cc band at the time of surgery, with an additional 1 cc added on 12/16/2010. I went in for a fill yesterday and received 2 cc more, so I'm also at a total of 6 cc right now. My surgeon directs two days of liquids after every fill due to the resulting inflammation, so it's hard to guage what my restriction will be like.

What I do know, however, is that I can feel the liquids accumulating in my upper stomach, and not just running through, so maybe that's a good sign!

I went today for another fill and now I have 8ccs. Hope I will gain more restriction! I'm always hungry! My doc doesn't require the liquid or mushy diet after a fill.

Mine never required a special diet after a fill either. He just said "be kind to the band" and pay even closer attention to the size of my bites and my chewing to avoid stuck episodes.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
