Good restriction - Need diet advice!!!

Recommended Posts

Surgery 8/31/10. 4th fill 1/14/11 and FINALLY have restriction. What do those of you eat that have good restriction? I am having a tough time getting my act together! I know I have to learn to eat slower and chew better, but some foods just do not stay down no matter what!!!! I really want to do this the right way. Doc says I should see the nutritionist again, but I thought I might get some good help here from some of you pros.

My doctor said I should be able to eat 3 oz of Protein, 1/2 cup of vegies and 1/4 cup of starch (maybe). I should not have to chew my food smaller than a pencil eraser...and I should not have any episodes of sliming or getting stuck. If I do, it's a sign of an overfill.

Sounds like you may be a tad too tight. If your eating properly (small bites, lots of chewing) and it's still not staying down, I would suggest a slight unfill. I have hesitated when I was too tight for fear of being hungry. Each time I finally gave it and I still had some restriction. Good luck!

Prior to this fill, I could basically eat like a pig if I did not take control! I was at 9 cc, now I am at 10 cc and can't handle almost every solid. I hope is just an adjustment period and will be able to eat soon. I have lost five pounds this week. Starving and/or puking is not a fun way to lose weight!

Sounds like you're way too tight. Better to get an unfill of a little bit rather than all of it if you have serious issues.

I have not reached restriction yet but I have read enough here to know that it is better to get a small unfill than to be too tight. Being too tight can actually lead to a stall or even a weight gain because you will start relying on slider foods which can actually be more calories than you should eat. Not to mention the health problems that can occur from being too tight. Maybe have them take out .25 or .50 cc and you could end up being at your "sweet spot". Good luck.

I have not experienced being "over filled" but from what I have read here.....it sounds like you need an unfill......my doc supports micro adjustments.....would yours consider removing 0.25 or 0.5 cc and see how that goes? You should be able to eat......

If you're upchucking and starving, sounds like you're not getting enough to eat because your band is too tight...and as long as you are upchucking, it's a good bet your band areas is swollen and this will continue. Eventually, your hunger will drive you to eat sliders and the weight loss will stall or you'll start to gain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
