Unfil for Trip?

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of having an unfill when I go on a trip in June. This is not so I can pig out on vacation. I am now healthy enough to do a hiking and biking trip of Alaska! I never thought I would be able to do that when I was over 300 pounds but now I am really looking forward to it. But I have a concern. I am thinking about asking for an unfill for 2 reasons. One is that I will be exercising very hard during this trip with long bike rides each day and we will even be climbing a mountain. I am worried that I won't be able to eat enough to keep up my energy although I guess I could eat those energy supplements. But my real reason for thinking about an unfill is that I am concerned what would happen if I had a band problem while in a fairly remote region. What if something got seriously stuck or I had a stomach virus. I can't imagine that a local small hospital would have any idea what to do.

Anyone had this kind of experience or any thoughts about it.

you should ask your doctor but I would say that unless you have had problems of this type in the past, you probably dont need to do anything special. I am sure that any hospital would be able to help you if you are in need of emergency care, they have rescources to call if they dont know something and most doctors will ask you about what to do in my experiance when it comes to issues like this.

Regards,

My thoughts on not having enough energy are thin people eat basically banster sized meals. We think our meals are small because we're used to eating huge portions. I would recommend hkeeping food like energy/protein bars (small portal) with you in case of emergency or if you really need something to eat and everyone else is'nt hungry yet.

Don't take this the wrong way because I once said this exact sentence to mother when we were going on vacation. She was packing every over the counter drug she could find for our trip to Greece. I said "Mom, we are going to a first world country, not the wilds of the Rainforest". You might want to consider a emergency medical tags that have been discussed on this board before. Even a rural hospital should be able to unfill the port. I don't think they are much different than ones used in cancer treatments.

Alaska how awesome!!!! Talk to your doc and maybe unfill you a cc or 2. not all the way, just a cc or 2 so that you can enjoy your trip a little more without over doing it! I'm going to Disney in August and am thinking of having 1 cc removed.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
