Astrid,

can I ask what level of hospital + extras cover you have? I'm thinking about insurance shopping to prevent myself having to pay a large sum at the end.

errr posted before i finished

we have hospital with $50 excess per night and top extra's cover we've got three kids and it comes to $81.20 a fortnight which has been an effort to pay at times

we found out a couple of months ago that my daughter needed a heap of dental work and that ALL been covered haven't paid a cent for that iv also had 2 fillings done and that was fully covered aswell so we have spent less on the insurance than we would have dental

iv also found everyone iv dealt with from HCF really helpful

wow i should do there ads after that speel

also michelle where are you located? i know diffrent surgeons and there teams have diffrent gaps (if any)

Hi Astrid,

thanks for the info. I'm in Bris, in Jindalee (sort of south side as far as I can tell). I've been told I have a $6,500 ish out of pocket expense which isn't covered by gap.

I was done by Dr Martin at the PA in brissy

it coz 10000 in total including dietitan visits. I didnt have any insurance

My hubbys super paid for it. Post ops and fills are bulk billed I thought it was a great price with no insurance!!!

Mine cost total about $5000 with private health insurance (NIB)...that includes my surgeon, hospital stay, anaesthetist, dietitian, psych before and after, fills and general appointments bulk billed. I then got about $1200 back from both Medicare and NIB combined. Not so bad!

Mine is costing $1950 out of pocket (HBF private health cover) including the anaethatiest. Fills have a gap of about $40. Doc Watson says he charges a gap to prevent people coming in every week to be adjusted. Fair enough!

I'm paying $6,500 AUD with Dr Blair Bowden. I know I could get it cheaper but I dont think that you should shop around for this type of thing. Find a Doctor you trust with a good reputation and pay his/her fee with confidence.

Fleur - is that a gap payment. My bill for Blair is over $20 000 - all self pay through super.

That was the gap payment. When I visited the office last month, I was given a paper that said my total out of pocket after insurance would be $10,500

I used Dr Copp $16500 as a self pay but I got $2300 back from the hospital and should get some more back at tax time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
