Mine was 16K with one year of fills and support. Dr. Simpson ...So far I have attended at least one support group a month and no fills. Bike 30-35 mph, 30 mins. at a time and walk 2 miles in 30 minutes....daily. As time permits, 300 rebounds. went from size 24 down to 16.

I paid $8000 on inclusive to go to Dr. Joya for my surgery, airfare and hotel, plus $1500 for extra hotel nights and DH's airfare. It was well worth it. My aftercare is $195 per fill here in Alaska.

Maybe it is worth putting a year into getting and waiting for private insurance to kick in? I still had an out of pocket with my banding, but it was far less than I would have paid if I had been 100% self pay. Even 1 year of private health + my out of pocket was less than 10k. Way less. And I think you will struggle to find a doc to do it for less than that.

I paid $3300 AUD for the surgeon and assistant, $800 for anaethetist and Australian unity paid the rest. I think the surgeons fee gap can diifer as I had a quote of $1800 from a surgeon in queensland, I just went with who I felt had the most experience. The quote without insurance was about $16000.

if your here in Australia yes that is cheap and it also includes all your fills....WOW your so lucky......as we have all had to pay over $3000 for our op and i think most of us have to still pay for our fills.

Where abouts are you from??

I'm paying $6,500 AUD with Dr Blair Bowden. I know I could get it cheaper but I dont think that you should shop around for this type of thing. Find a Doctor you trust with a good reputation and pay his/her fee with confidence.

For those of you who are self-pay, get it in writing. It has been over a year since I was banded and Friday I received another past due bill of $2900, for the anesth doctors, the BALANCE of what they charged vs the $750.00 which is what I was required to pay before banding, and has been paid. When I called my doctors office, the manager there told me to call the Anesth office and the hospital and tell them. I checked my records and I had mailed HER a letter Feb 05 regarding this same issue. So I faxed her a copy of the 05 letter and a note telling her I paid what I was quoted and THEY had the contract/agreement with the Anesth office and it was up to her to get it straight, don't ya think.

Get the quote in writing, I wish I had.

Oh yeah, they don't deal with that Anesth group any more.

$15,000.00 My insurance would not pay for it because my BMI is under 40 and I do not have 3 co-morbidities.

Currently working with UHC Insurance to pay for my daughter's surgery. She is BMI 45. If they approve, it will cost her $1500.00.

Had my 1st appointment today with my surgeon. Got all the prices & worked out that all up (including dietician & all pre-op appointments) out of pocket costs will be $4,050.00. (Includes $250 Australian Unity Hospital Excess). :faint:

The biggest portion of this cost will be the actual Surgery bill of $4,036.00. This has to be paid a week before surgery, and I cannot claim back until after the surgery is done. Australian Unity have advised me that they will reimburse $720.85 of the Surgery bill - my surgeon does not have 'No Gap' cover for this procedure.

Am being banded, hopefully in 4-5 weeks @ Knox Private Hospital (Victoria).

Interestingly enough, found out today that I'm 1cm higher than I thought & also 2kg lighter - but my BMI is still 35 - go figure

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
