Hi! This is my first time to post I hope a do it correctly. I am awaiting surgery on January 19. I have gone through with my insurance approval, the only thing left is I must see my cardiologist. I have been lurking in the wings watching the forums. I appreciate the honesty and openness and the advice from everyone. I have several other problems including diabetes, heart problems, sleep apnea, and arthrites, I am hoping this surgery helps with all of them. Has anyone had any improvements with diabetes?

Hi Georgia, I think the man you want to talk to is Jack. In one of his posts today, he was telling me that he has gone from 200 units a day to 45 units for the whole month of December. Keeping in mind that he has also lost something like 80 pounds.

I would think there would be more out there to discuss diabetes and what is happening; i have my surgery the 16th and after reading some of this, i'm nervous, a lot of problems with dry heaves?

P.S. The Barium wasn't that bad.

I had my surgery on Dec. 20th, i was taken to xray for the barium while i was in the recovery room, and it was only a sip of the barium. I am also a diabetic, which i have not taken my medicine but once since surgery but i keep a daily check on my sugar levels. I had my 2 week follow up yesterday and I have lost 16 lbs. YEA!!! and i get to start at the gym now. I have had absolutely NO nausea, dry heaves, or vomiting since the surgery. Just remember drink and eat slow and stop when u start to fill full. Chew Chew Chew.

Well on my diabetic meds, I only take pills, I have been a nurse for 23 years and my Dr. and I have discussed the taking of my medicine. My blood sugar bottomed out because i am taking in ALOT less calories than i was, so i take my meds when i need it and so far i haven't needed it. My Dr. trusts me on this because i know my body and what is going on. I had my 2 week check up on the 3rd. and i am going to set up my first fill for about 2 weeks from now. Dr. Powell in dallas did my surgery, but i was referred by Dr. Fred Maese and i will be going back to Dr. Maese because he does the fills in his office and is easier for me since i live 140 miles from dallas. Good luck to yall and i hope that its as easy for you as it has been for me. I am starting the gym friday and i can't wait.

Jamoorse, MsJoy, my DW, had her surgery done by Dr. Jay on the 28th of Dec. They came and got her while she was in recovery and took her down to radiology for the barium swallow. She says that it really wasn't anything. A couple of swallows, not really any kind of taste. A couple of x-rays and she was out of there.

The liquid pre-op diet ain't nothin' either. I read on here yesterday, think of the diets that you have tried for YEARS. This is only for 7 days. MsJoy says just keep your tummy occupied with something...water, juice (non-acidic), gatorade, crystal light, broth, coffee...whatever. She too, is a diet coke addict and she had NO withdrawals or headaches. You'll do great!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
