Hi, my name is Valerie and I am 50. I live in Bridgeport, TX. I was banded on August 13, 2010 and have lost 40 pounds. Got my 5th fill yesterday. I also was given samples of Bariatric Advantage shakes and Vitamins. I think I am in love! SO much better than the whey Protein shakes available at Wal-Mart and Target. Going to get more of those.

I am glad I got it. I feel better now and the weight is starting to come off very well.

Would enjoy talking to you!

I'm 55 and haven't got a surgery date yet. The last thing I have to do is go to see my cardiologist to get him to sign off on the surgery. (I had quad by-pass surgery in 08) I see him next Thursday. I can't wait to start my journey! Right now I feel bad all the time and can't hardly walk most of the time. I'm ready for a new life!

Hi:

I'm 51. I've been banded for 3 1/2 years. You'll be so glad that you did this for yourself. I feel 15 years younger and have the energy of someone in their 30's.

Best wishes to you.

Sue

I am 53 and I was just banded on 12/30/10. I am on day 8 of the full liquid diet and I am so ready to chew something! LOL

I'm doing great in the weight loss. Started at 253 in June and am currently 215. I am so happy with the way I look and feel!

I was able to walk for quite a ways today without getting winded....something that would have happened for sure 6 months ago.

I finally feel that I can be successful at weight loss!!

I'm 51 and was banded last March. Since then I've lost almost 80 lbs, and have almost reached my goal of 150. Thinking of adjusting it downward - something I never thought I'd say since I'd been fat since infancy :)

Good luck to you! Sharon

Hi Rosey and other Golden bandsters! I hit the big 55 next week and I'm out three years now almost from my lapband surgery. I lost 140 lbs and then had a really stressful year in 2010 and gained about 10 lbs back so I'm back on track now. Committed to staying online and getting other support from bandsters that really helped me in my first couple years and then I got away from asking for support. I joined WW and really like the PointsPlus program as its very close to aligning for what I need to do now - fruits, vegetables, lean Proteins first and not using my points on carbs, fats, and sweets except as exceptions. I also think I need weekly weigh ins now for accountability to someone else since I don't go see my surgeon's office any more except if I think I need a check up which I am physically fine. No band fill needed, I have enough restriction if I choose to eat the right things. I'd be glad to try to answer private messages or post here to questions from a longer out bandster but I need encouragement to finish off my last 50 lbs! Want to get done and get to maintaining with +5/-5 lbs around the same. I can tell you +10 lbs was making my clothes tighter and it was a real wake up call.

Thanks for posting SpecialK and making yourself available for questions. My question concerns a fill. I currently have 2 cc's in a 10 cc band. I was overfilled after surgery with 3.5 cc's and had to get an unfill to the 2 cc's. I have decent restriction right now but I get hungry within 2 to 3 hours after eating. I eat about 1 cup of food vs 1/2 cup when I had the 3.5 cc's. I can eat breads and other difficult foods, but, but with caution. The weight loss has slowed down but I started exercising more rigorously and have lost a couple of pounds in 2 weeks. I have a fill appointment this coming Tuesday. Would you advise me on getting a fill or stay where I'm at and depend more on the exercise? I will say that the 2cc I currently have is where I want to be for maintenance when I reach goal, but, I like the fact that I don't have the heavy restriction. In my mind I think that less restriction is safer. I know that this is just me being cautious, but, I had a 2nd surgery due to port problems and I'm terrified of having to do another surgery in the event of other complications. Thanks for listening. Jake BTW, I am 50 years young. lol

I'm 56 and my sugery is Feb. 7th, 2011. I know its going to change my life! The tool of restriction is one I have needed. I'm glad for this site with so much support. I adopted 2 newborns 6 and 5 years ago. I am a late bloomer and love being a Mom. I want to be able to be more active with my children and see them grown & happy! I need to lose 125, so will be on here often. I wish I had been ready to have lap years ago, but I'm here now. Very grateful I'm finally ready now. Thanks for all the supportive posts.

I, too am in my 50's. I just turned 58 and have been banded for 2 years. I am down 90 pds, was banded 12/20/08 and been maintaining for the last year. It is much harder maintaining then going down. I am a size 8-10 but i gained 3 pds this last christmas and can't seem to get it off. The weather has been unusually cold for Arizona and my walks are few and far between. I never have felt so good in my life as I do now and the compliments keep coming in even with my hair turning gray. I feel like a million dollars and my husband is so proud of me. I fought the band the first few months, it was so hard to give up bread and SUGAR but now it is a way of life for me and I do occasionally cheat but go back to good eating and good living. If I can do this, anybody can. Good luck to everyone who is on this journey because I have never regretted the decision and the outcome. LIfe is what you make of it and you are never to old to change anything you REALLY want!!!

I'm 51 and have been maintaining around 5 pounds from my goal for quite some time now. I don't think I look like I'm in my 50's and now I sure don't feel it! i've had the band for four years now and it's the best thing I've ever done. I love my band!

Hi,

I'm Rhonda and I'm 50. I had lapband surgery on 4/6/10 and have lost 80 pounds so far. I need to lose about 46 more pounds to reach my goal weight. I have never never regretted my lapband surgery and just wish that I would have done it 10 years ago!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
