December Bandings....How is everyone doing?

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Mary and I was banded on Dec.26 in Houston by Dr.Marvin. I am doing great except I get tired so easily. When I went for my first week checkup, I had lost 20 pounds, which is very unusual for lapbanders, However, I had picked up a lot of Fluid before Christmas.

I was on liquids the first seven days and I did not get hungry until the 6th and 7th days. I was so thankful for the 2nd week to start so I could eat soft foods. I will be on soft food for another week and then will be on a low fat, low sugar diet. My first fill is on February 1.

My biggest problem is the tireness. I teach PreKindergarten and we started back to school on Jan.4. It's a good thing that we only had 3 days of school this week because I'm not sure I could have made a full week.

Any suggestions for fatigue?

By the way, I love the idea of a December banding support group.

Mary

Mary,

Are you getting your required Protein? I finally had to start tracking my levels because I was fatigued, too. The surgery, anesthesia, and healing process cause you to SLOW DOWN, but once you start feeling physically better, you need to make sure you are getting your protein!! It really has helped me! If you can't stand the Protein shakes (I don't enjoy it, but I feel a million times better on the days I drink one for breakfast), try boiling a chicken breast and then pureeing it. Put plenty of chicken broth in it, and you have a TRUE Protein meal!

Good luck, and hope this helps!

Cheri,

Thanks for the suggestion. I am getting my 50 grams of Protein. I make sure I get that first. I called my doctor's nurse and she told me that it is normal to get tired. I am trying to take it easy today and tomorrow before I go back to school on Monday. Dealing with 3- & 4-year olds is tiring enough without the surgery mixed into it.

If you work outside the home, how long did you stay out before you went back?

Mary

I was banded 12/22 and have had good weight loss and some loss of inches that has been even better. Still on Clear Liquids, but allow myself sugar free pudding sometimes when I am really hungry. Will be on Clear Liquids until 1/23 when I get my first fill.

Only have pain in my stomach area, no port pain. Incisions are all sealed up and healed fast.

This website has been a great support. Thank you all!

Jacqui,

I will try for more carbs. I have been trying so hard to get my 50 grams of Protein that I haven't eaten many carbs. Thank you for the support and help.

I was banded on 12/28 and I haven't weighed yet. I decided to wait until I see the doctor on 1/17. I have to admit, I feel great. Today I went to the gym and walked 2 miles and road the elliptical machine. I'm waiting to get back into light weights until after my follow up. I haven't had the urge to eat anything "bad" and I can't believe my pick up in energy. I'm still on mushies and I'm trying to drink 2 liters of Water a day. I was unsure about my choice at first, but I am very happy now!

I was banded 12/7. I have lost 28 pounds in one month. I have been faithful exercising. I swim at the local Y, treadmill, and today even road my bike 4 miles in the cold (from Connecticut). I get my first fill January 16. Right now, however, I'm in a slump and haven't been loosing any weight. I'm going to Hawaii in February and hope to loose a few more pounds before I go. Good luck to all!

I'm doing much better now I was in the ER room last week. I pulled a few muscles the pain was horrific... I think its time for a fill becuase I can eat almost as much as I was before banding and I dont get a tightness or pain or PB. I had a lot of not so good calories today Chocolate/ and Ice Cream... any ways I usually just stop eating simply becuase I put my life on the line (surgery) to lose weight and I know I cant lose weight if I'm back to my old habbits. I see the Dr on Friday and hopefully he will have a new Nurtrition on staff by then... I need a little help as to what I should be eating each day... Someone posted pyramid on one of the threads and that was helpful.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
