Recommittig for 2011

Recommended Posts

i began this journey at 280lbs, my surgeon told me inorder for me to have the surgery i would need to lose 20lbs. She sent me on my way to series of test and labs. 6 months later and down 38lbs it was time to get the band. the 1st year i lost 57lbs, and then i had a slip, a revision surgery and then a tragic death in the family that really just sent me on a downward weight loss spiral. I havent gained any of my 95lbs back but i havenet lost any either and I am still40lbs away from my goal. i have spent this last year not being committed to the process and consequently i havent reached my goal weight, but i have not given up. i am determined to finish what i started. so my question is "am i alone in this? is anyone else 1/2 way to goal and need to recommitt to the process?" i welcome the company and the support. time to refocus and put all my WEPNS in place (drinking all my Water, Exercise daily , eat enough Protein, No snacking, taking all my Supplement). i didnt come this far to give up now.

I've already started kicking it into high gear - holiday season or not! So I am with you! 2011 is going to see a new me. I am building up to do a 5K (walking - I've had back surgery and can no longer run) cancer walk in May with friends. I am currently walking 1+ miles M-F and will increase as I continue. I have had a really hard time getting the weight off my torso. My legs and hips are shrinking just fine, but oooohhhh my stomach! It's holding on for dear life! LOL

We can do this, count me in!!!

I fell off the wagon and hard a few weeks ago because I need an unfill badly. I never got back up after that. I stressed for a few days making things worse so I just said to hell with it. I am not stepping on the scale or stressing about my weight until Jan 5th ( when i get back from vacation).

After that I will focus on losing more weight. For now I am happy to maintain and proud of the goals I have achieved this year.

ddgalarza- That is just great you aren't gaining weight with evertthing you've been through. That is a great accomplishment. You must be doing some things right. Are you working out? If not I would start. It has done wonders for my weight loss. I think you know what you need to do-it's just a matter of doing it. Go back to journaling your food and limiting your portions. I used to count calories and protien. Sticking to 800-1100 cals and at least 60 grams of protien.

I'm jumping in too. I recommitted back in sept and have lost almost 55 pounds since then but lately my eating has taken over and I feel that I'm no longer driving this bus. I started going to therapy for binge eating disorder and I'm going to really focus on making the most of my therapy sessions. I've been playing with the same 3-4 pounds for the last 2 weeks, and with the amount of exercise I'm doing, that shouldn't be happening. I'm just a few pounds from onederland. I don't know if it will happen by new years but if it happens in the beginning of January, that will be great too. I'm exercising so much, I don't want to waste it with crappy food choices. So count me in!

Also, alien - where are you going for vaca? Were meeting my fiance's mom in Hawaii tomorrow! I'm so excited to see her and also to get out of this horrible weather. And were also returning Jan 5th!

I honestly need to get my butt into gear. Not just from a weight loss perspective, but going back to the basics of journaling, exercising regularly, Water intake and just eating better. I have fallen off in all these areas, and while I haven't gained, I haven't lost either, and I think I would have been at my goal by now if I was still following the program (blush). My resolution is to get back on that wagon and do this, once and for all!!! The goal weight I have set for myself is actually still higher than the 'norm' for my height (I'm 5 ft 1.5 inches), but I would be soooo happy to be at 145!!!

Good luck to everyone. Here's to a fabulous 2011 and keeping each other motivated to see it through!!!

I'm with you. I got my band in August and it was going really well (down 45lbs) until last month. I'm not really sure what's been going on - stress at work, some "issues" in my relationship, the holidays, but I've been eating crap (grazing like crazy when I'm not really hungry) and haven't been exercising as I should. It all kind of started when I went on vacation in New Orleans and the food! But I think it's time to get back on the band-wagon (heh) and start losing again. I don't want to be one of those people who lose 40 lbs and stop. I didn't pay all that money, and go through all this hassle, not to be a success.

So count me in. I'm committing to eat three or four small meals a day and exercising as much as I can. We can do this!

Count me in. My weight loss has almost stalled since Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving and Christmas have been very hard going out of town with family not exercising as much and eating more. I have to refocus in January, I have come too far to turn back now. Cheers everybody and let's do this!!!

Confession is good for the soul.. so here goes. I was banded in July of 2009. For the first year I was vigilant. I walked. I ate Protein. I drank my Water. I hit the gym. My hubby was banded in December 2008, and he has never really worked the band. Yet, during the summer he even started working out and was beginning to move the scale. Then August came and we both went back to grad school. The gym time got less. The time to walk was less. Healthy eating was replaced by drive-thrus. Needless to say, by Thanksgiving I was completely off focus. As my hubby spiraled easily back into out of control eating, I tagged along. So here I am... My sister today had her pre-op visit for the bypass. I made a commitment mentally in the office to get back on the wagon. I even went so far as to try and log on while there (System acting goofy and couldn't). So now back at home and here. This thread is exactly the one I needed to find. Please list me in your prayers friends as I try to get back to the basics as one of you mentioned and indeed finish this!!!:D

Your not alone! I got banded in July 2009 and lost 40lbs, but this October they found out my port was cracked and I too had a revision surgery but unlike you, I gained back 15 lbs and I feel horrible! I am ready to get on track and finish this! I still have 30-40 lbs to my goal. I am trying to fight the depression of gaining some of my weight back and it is definately affecting my motivation.

ddgal- I'm so happy to read your post. We are in a very similar situation. I was banded 5/09, I've lost just a little over 100, but I've kinda been "floating" for several months now.

I had an appt last week, but the Dr said I don't need an adjustment, it's basically just me. . . I need to re-commit to a few things to get things rolling again. I think I've started snacking lately, whereas i didn't allow myself to do that in the past. I exercise like crazy-- but sometimes I eat more sweets than I should-- so I feel like I'm exercising just to burn off the extras I've eaten! It's an awful, vicious cycle! A small bag of M$Ms is soooooo not worth 20 min on the elliptical! ha ha

I think it would help me to have the support, so I'll check back here and see how you all are doing! be sure to post any good tips, ideas you have-- i'm sure we all have them, but over time we forget :)

Me too, me too, me too ! My biggest challenge right now is complacency. I've lost over 60# , have new clothes and look much better. I'm happy where I am but didn't do this to quit halfway through. I have to keep reminding myself that the band is a TOOL....I still have to do the work in this life-long commitment to physically alter my body in order to lose this weight pemanently and live my life a lot healthier. But it still can be a little depressing when going out to eat with family and friends......I still want to be able to enjoy but physically can't join in because of restriction. Ah well, looking forward to New Year !

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
