They told me no but when I am a little sick I have some ginger ale and doesn't seem to bother me any. It helps the sickness.

My doctor told me NO SODA. She said the carbonation will make your stomach hurt. I have been drinking soda the last few weeks and have had NO problems. I drink it very slowly. I am going to stop drinking it just because of the calories it has

  1. Erroded bands are from thinning out of the stomach walls by whatever makes your lining thin.. too much acid, caffeine naids(aspirin) and bubbly. Think of the wrist watch on your wrist and when you eat too much salt and it gets swollen-and it rubs and leave a mark. Some have stomachs of steel , I used to eat dirt, as a kid) not anymore,

For me carbonated drinks fall into that list of things where it doesn't matter what any Dr. says. I simply can not drink them. They cause discomfort, so I now avoid them without thought or regret ..... no big deal after awhile.

Carbonated drinks can cause the band to erode. My surgeon said not to drink at all. My cousin has the band & if she feels the need for a soda (once in a while) mixes it with a little Water?

Also one can of soda has lots of calories & hidden sugars. As far as other carbonated drinks I don't know the calorie amounts, but I was told to stay away from all carbonated drinks.

I'm glad to see that someone was given the same advise as I was. Plain and simple pop causes Band Erosion. I was told No Pop at all, and No caffeine at all, and No Gum at all.

The gas in pop can hurt the stomach (I FOUND THAT OUT BY ACCIDENT, AND THE HARD WAY.) Caffeine can cause the Band to erode in time, and if you swallow gum by accident ! I will be the one going down to get what is stuck, So it better not be GUM !

I still live by those words.

I don't know about erosion issues. Regular soda, beer, or bubbly wine has calories to take into account. Diet soda has chemicals that can stimulate your appetite.

For me, carbonated drinks sometimes give me the hiccups or burps. Mostly not worth it. Unless it's the weekend and I am having beer. THEN it's worth it! BUT, I am maintaining, so I am not concerned about calorie count. If my weight goes up, intake goes down until the weight goes down.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
