I was reading a different thread where a new bandster was going to be discharged the same day as surgery. I'm curious... how many of you stayed overnight? Did your surgeon do a barium swallow after surgery to check for leaks? There was a very high profile case here in Michigan involving a Detroit city councilwoman. She died after her band surgery because the surgeon nicked her stomach with the instruments. A barium swallow after surgery will catch any nicks/leaks, so it became standard procedure at my hospital. What was your experience?

I had the barium swallow the same day as my surgery and was discharged the next morning. It was only about five or six hours out of surgery too - princess that I am I lay back on the bed and waited for the nurse to assist me, I was most affronted when it because obvious that she expected me to get up myself, lol. To my surprise I could, quite easily. Standing up while it was done was a little harder and swallowing that swill and not chucking was even harder, but all was fine.

that was one of my questions for the Dr. after I learned about Brenda Scott's death. I did a big read up on it and was a little afraid when I learned it was the lapband surgery she had.. I asked Dr. Wood if he new what happened and how could that have been prevented and he said he requires a barium swallow and he doesnt release you on the same day as surgery... I had no food by mouth till after my swallow and then of course it was only liquids. He checked for leaks and I guess extreme swelling...(I guess that's to the point where you cant swallow)... Thank God I had neither and shortly after the swallow and my test results came back I saw Dr. Wood and may an hour or so I was released....

I had the swallow and expected it to be much worse than it actually was. It was over in about 5 seconds. Shoot, I can do almost anything for that long.

I had to do a swallow test under fluoroscopy, but it wasn't barium. It was something HORRIFYING called, I think, omnipaque or something like that. It was the single most disgusting thing I have ever tasted in my life, and very nearly did me in.

Since then I've had to drink barium for every fill, and it tastes like a milkshake compared to what they had me drink after surgery. But nasty as it was, it let me go home the same day and that's what really mattered to me.

My swallow was the next morning and actually showed that I was passing the liquid very slowly so they kept me in for an extra day to make sure I wasn't going to vomit back everything (showing that I was too tight). I have had good restriction from the beginning though so I just think it was tight going through......

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
