Odd feeling after 1 year of being banded...not good

Recommended Posts

It will be one year on Dec 28th that is was banded. I have about 4.8 cc in my band. Now before you tell me to rush to the Dr. and get checked out. I have been a RN for 20 years so I know that I will be going in this week to have this check out...Please keep reading on...

Everything has been going great until about 3 days ago. Suddenly I now have a sore throat and moderate gurgling in my throat without whatever I eat or drink. this is very odd for me as I do pretty well on a normal basis. If I even take a sip of ANYTHING, i CAN FEEL every single drop go down. This morning i pretty much drank runny oatmeal and about threw it up because it was not wanting to go down....

My last fill was Nov 18th....so this is what I am thinking..

1. I am experience reflux from a tight band....

2. Did the restriction kick in after 17 days? Could that be......Never had it before but who the hell knows

3. My band has slipped because it feels high in my chest.........

4. Some type of erosion?

Okay experts..what do you think it could be..I am open to your advice...I am calling in the morning for a upper GI to make sure this is still okay..Could it be my band is suddenly tooooo tight?

thanks,

Onenuttynurse

Since it has been a year and you haven't had any issues since, it almost sounds like a virus. Like maybe you caught something and it is causing swelling in your esophagus and now you can't eat a thing. I am so sorry, but I am so glad to hear you are headed to the Dr so he can fix you up. I hope it is something small and you feel better soon!

It sounds like it could be a slip. I believe an erosion is best diagnosed by endoscopy.

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!

Hmmmm. interesting...I have never had restriction yet since having this done until 3 days ago....I can live with the tightness, but the reflux sore throat I cant as I already have a documented hx of several reflux since i was a kid....Hmmmmmm,,,I don't feel sick but a not ruling out a virus......Thanks.

could be band erosion too. I think you are on the right track though. The signs are of GERD.

i HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. I HAD GOTTEN A FILL AND WAS DOING AWESOME, THEN 2 MONTHS LATER, I GOT A COLD AND THEN MY BAND WAS TOO TIGHT. I COULDN'T EVEN EAT, COULD ONLY SIP ON liquids. WENT INTO THE DOCTOR WHO REMOVED .5CC'S. IT CURED MY PROBLEM. WENT FOR AN UPPER GI TO MAKE SURE IT HADN'T SLIPPED AND THE DOCTOR SAID EVERYTHING WAS OK. HOPE ITS THE SAME WITH YOU.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
