Calling All Eroders

Recommended Posts

Now I know that the doctors do not recommend to have an endo until a year after being banded. I have only been banded for 6 months. I have suddenly lost restriction. I'm thinking I need another fill, but to be honest, I haven't been very good to my band lately (haven't been following all the rules). I keep reading about so many people being diagnosed with erosion. I'm not sure if it's my guilt for not being a good bandster, but I keep worrying my self about being eroded. It's gotten to the point that I am not even enjoying the holidays, because I am so stressed about it. So my question is, how soon after being banded, can erosion occur? Who has had the quickest erosion?

I was told by my doctor erosion occurs 18 months to 2 years out..I know I eroded between the 14 th month and the 19 month post op.

Can't tell you when I eroded. I had an endoscopy in June of 04 and that one was all clear. Then I had one on Dec 05 and that one showed erosion so mine was removed on Dec 6, 2005. Two weeks ago.

I think it's a natural worry -- we start to see results, we finally have some hope again, and we are scared we might lose it. Most of us worry about it at some point.

Chances are that you just need a small fill. If you are not filled enough, it is very hard to consistently follow the rules. Especially if you are feeling hungry all the time and thinking about food a lot. You can recommit to following the rules when you get the fill, and do what you can until then.

Definitely talk to your surgeon or fill doc about your concerns. They will hopefully put you at ease. (or give you the endo for your peace of mind)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
