I read that the amino acid glutamine helps heal stomach lining.

That's the real issue for me , why I have not been banded yet (and I have been approved for 6 months now) is no one has been long term with the band either successfully or with complications.

I have not met one person who has had the band for 10 or more years and that bothers me. I'm kind of surprised it doesn't bother anyone else before being banded. :-/

Leenerbups, unless you're hanging around in Europe you won't meet anyone with a band for more than 10 years. And even overseas, where they've been doing it since the early 90s, banding technology has improved over the last decade.

I thought quite seriously about the prospect of having a band installed and then having to have it removed, but it seemed a completely worthy risk to take. In my early 40s, with two small children, 340 was no way to live and my health would only get worse. I was unable to do anything to affect my weight in any meaningful way. Banding, with all its risks, seemed like a practical and proactive step to take. And I still feel that way, even if I were to be the next member of club erosion.

I hear you DeCarla.

Alex, to be honest, that's where I'm at. I have insulin resistance, PCOS high triglicerides, cholestral, sugar is getting higher and other issues and I'm fast headed to early death if I don't do something.

Hi Richard,

Welcome to LBT! All you have to do is read through some of the threads so as to get an idea of many people's experiences. When you have specific questions feel free to respond to a thread, as you did here, or start a new one with your questions. I was banded 8/29/05 and have had troubles on and off since. Yes, I have lost about 50 pounds (yippee!), but i am so restricted at my food and drink intake. Burping??? I know all about it, Delara... I can pump 'em out with the best of 'em...lol. I go for my endoscopy 2/26/06- yes, a doctore that does them on Sundays! No missed work!

I have a question... I am losing a lot, not just a lot, but A LOT of hair. I assume it is because i am not getting my Protein, as I should. Any one else have this happent o them, and if so, what did you do? I used to have awesome hair, but now it looks like a bad Barbie doll hair....HELP!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
