Had my port flip. It is frustrating but not really a big deal.

They will probably try and do it under fluoroscopy. That way they will be able to see for sure if it is flipped or not.

I also had mine flip once. If it has, it is a very simple, and quick procedure to correct it. Don't worry, you will be fine.

I just had port revision surgery last week, port flipped too. The surgery was no big deal only a few days until I was feeling better.

Wow, if that kind of thing happens do you have to pay for it, or did your surgeon do it for free? I need to stop reading this site!! lol

I had to pay for it, so far my copay was $627 for the hospital, versus almost $6K for the band surgery.

I was admitted at 11am and discharged by 2:30pm, twilight sedation, no abdominal gas, sent home with liquid codeine. Only took it the first night.

Wowza, I'm paying 10.4k for my surgery, can't imagine having to eat another almost $700 because the port flipped. Do you have the regular size or low profile?

When mine flipped, it was during the first year I had my band. I was fortunate because the cost of my surgery included all fills, and any complications, etc. for one year. So, I was able to have the port placed back in proper position without it costing me anything.

About a month ago I went in for my 3rd fill and my doc couldn't fill me either... Went in and had fluoro done and yes, it had flipped! I was so mad.. considering I just had surgery in July.. It just seemed way too soon for complications to arrive. But I had surgery and had it repositioned. The surgery wasn't that bad.. Just sore for a few days. Good luck to you, hopefully yours isn't flipped though!

Doc couldnt access my port so went yesterday to have it done under xray. He still couldnt get in to the port even though everything looked fine on the xray so he used contrast and still wasn't able to get the needle in. He was then talking about going in to have a look under anesthetic. But thanks to the xray guy, i was sent over to the attached public hospital where they used the bigger xray machine and a longer needle and finally managed to give me my fill of 6mls. I have a pocket of Fluid around my port and every time the needle pushed on the port it would tip and the needle slipped off instead of going in. With a better view they were able to get into the port. The needle was pretty bent up when they finished. It didnt hurt.

They weren't able to fill me last week either. My port flipped. I'm going back to the Doctor this evening to see if they are able to do it. I really don't want to have surgery again. And I'm bummed out just thinking about it. But I guess we gotta do, what we gotta do. Didn't come this far to stop at this point. But it IS frustrating! I'm sorry others are experiencing the same frustration, but at the same time I feel like I'm not alone.

First, don't panic. My doctor's office has the nurse practioners do the fills. One nurse is better at it than the other. I apparently have a lot of scar tissue so it is had to access. The less accurate nurse had to poke me three times before she found the port. The other nurse has never had to do that. The person doing the fill may just have not been very good.

I just had my 8 week post op appt with my surgeon today. He thought I needed a fill, so he tried. He had trouble accessing my port in the office, so we ventured over the the lab and he tried under x-ray. While watching it was really cool for me, I was quite disappointed in the end. You could see that my port had NOT flipped, but every time he tried to acces it, it would tilt. It appeared that the needle was in, but it kept hitting something metal. Dr said is was the back of the port. But he was really confused as the xray showed that the port was positioned correctly. Now, I am having surgery next week so he can figure out what's going on. While I'm not really scared or ticked about it, I am pretty bummed. :(

This is what is happening with me but the surgeon is unsure what to do. I ended up with a fill of 6 mls under xray but felt no different. Doc tried again yesterday and said he put 3 more ml in but is not certain it went in. If i dont feel restriction in the next couple of days i need to go back to xray and from there to endoscopy and i expect eventually to surgery to have my port repositioned. Surgeon is certain the port hasn't flipped but cant understand why he cant get in, he says it could be because of how deep it is. I am big but i wouldn't have thought i was the biggest patient he has ever had, he only uses regular size needles - like when you get an injection. Xray doc uses extra long needle.

Doc also questions my restriction because i have lost 3 kilos in the last 6 weeks. I told him it was because i am dieting and exercising but have no restriction but he doesn't agree. I am frustrated but need to stay focused because i refuse to put any weight back on.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
