Post op diets

Recommended Posts

I am on liquids and Jello for 2 weeks post op. This has been hard than the 2 weeks pre-op I already did. I have been drinking Protein Shakes, adding the unflavored Unjury to Soups, and drinking Special K Protein Powder. I am still hungry, but trying to ignore it. I did have some cheese the other day and I have also been eating more than a spoonful of applesauce with my meds. I usually eat a full cup. I have no restriction so it has been hard.

I am now on regular foods, and let me tell you, it has been heaven. I have not been measuring like I should because I am starving all the time. I keep it to 3 meals a day most of the time and drink lots of Water. If I have been bad and didn't focus on Proteins, I have Iso Pure. Or one of my other cold Protein drinks. Being on regular food with no restriction and no fill in site due to an infection in my incision, which was in my belly button, it totally sucks. It's like, "here just gain all your weight back hon."

I'm an 11/22 bander...and i'm looking forward to starting mushy foods. I'm just not hungry period...i'm trying to drink more Water and broth than anything.

I have sore throat from the tube going down my throat and i have gas pain towards my stomach and upper chest...I'm just looking forward to that going away.

I was also banded 11/22. My diet afterwards was so different than everyone else's I read. I was liquids for the the first 7 days. Mushy on the 8th and 9th day and straight to chunky on the 10th day. I've been doing ok. Got my first fill 12/30 and my second is scheduled for 1/26.... I'm thinking about calling Monday and see if I can go in next week because I'm starting to gain back some of what I lost after my first fill. :( A little discouraging. I'm soooo scared I'm going to stretch out my pouch  .... I hope I'm not!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
