Fluoroscopy and swelling????

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Just a question....I have just been in for my 4th Port replacement in a year, (I was banded on the 9th of November 09) so as I am sure you can understand I am just a little stressed about making sure that my new port stays in perfect condition :).

All the replacements have been for different reasons, and I have just been extremely unlucky...BUT I went into my specialist for a fill yesterday and as I am only 4 weeks post op (from my port replacement) I am still too swallen for them to find the port on ultrasound and do a fill for me. Needless to say they do not want to risk any further complications with my port so they have sent me off for a fill under fluoroscopy. I have had 1 fill under fluroscopy before but my question is........as I am still swallen is there any risk of it being difficult to fill under fluoroscopy or any risk of damage to the port....should I wait until my internal swelling goes down or is it safe to get it done now????

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :crying:

I don't know the answer to your question, but so sorry you have been so unlucky. I am 8 weeks post op, and still cannot bend over with out pain, I think I might need to go back in for more surgery as well. But you seem so upbeat and it must be working for you. I was made to wait until my swelling went down before they checked my port for slippage. I was told it did not flip, but was sent for a CAT scan anyway. F/U on 11/30. My port sticks out, like a big square in the middle of my belly.

Oh I am so sorry to hear that you are still in pain missjoany:frown:

Did they check your lap band or port, or both with the ct scan???? Maybe you just have a lot of swelling and its taking some time to settle down????

I know with my op's, I have swallen so badly I can't sleep in bed for ages afterwards. I have to sleep reclined on a lounge chair as I can't lay flat for a long time.

What did they say after your CT scan????

I am still loving my band even though I have had some setbacks....I am so excited to have lost now 29.5kg in 1 year (still have to update my ticker LOL) I know its all scarry at the start (even during sometimes like for me) but you know once you start losing and see results you will remember its all worth every bit of it

Hi! I haven't had any calls since my cat scan. Maybe they are waiting till the f/u on 11/30. Yea, the recliner was my friend too! I noticed last night I had trouble laying flat. WOW your weight loss is life changing. I just passed 13.6 kg and I finally am noticing it. I had my sweat pants on last night and they almost fell off, and I had to adjust the string to keep them on!! Maybe I am just taking a long time to recover, I am kinda old! You are such an inspiration, thank you.

Hey missjoany...No news is good news so they say

You have done so well already to have lost so much.....itsn't it fantastic when you can see it in your clothing....thats so exciting for you ;)

It's almost Summer here is Australia, and I went to put on some pants from Summer 09 and I looked like I was on one of those diet adds where they show you by wearing their old clothes what they have lost....I could fit an extra 2 arm widths around the waist and they didnt stay up...I almost passed out from excitement LOL

I still have a long way to go, about another 50kg but I am getting there and I am just over 1/3 of the way there so getting closer every day to half way.

It sure is no quick fix like some people say, the people that have no idea what we go through, but its for the long term.

On my pre testing for the lap band I was diagnosed with Diabeties type 2. I knew it was comming as my mum has it.

Just by losing my first 15 to 20kg it is now gone and my blood sugar levels are completely normal.

Even with all the setbacks I have been through since having my band, I would do it all again in a heatbeat. Its the best thing I have ever done for myself.

I am humbled to think that you think of me as an inspiration.....speechless which is almost unheard of for me LOL:laugh:

I am so pleased that you are going so well..... keep it up and just think by your Summer time you will be so much lighter and able to enjoy life so much more and do so much more.

Keep in touch and let me know your results.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
