Did you think about waiting?

Recommended Posts

I have been stressing over what I'll hear on Wed. I have my appts to make. I hope they say ...Ok when would you like the surgery done? I and daughter were talking and saying how I should at least have T-day dinner. The more I think about it the more I want to say go as soon as possible! If I have a chance to start 2 wk diet now and go then I think I will. I've already had all this time to eat what I want and say good bye to some sweets ect lol I don't "have" to have m. potatoes and pies!:) There's still a lot of things I can have that are on the list. Did some of you have to make this desicision? In the back of my mind I wonder if they'll say I can't do it! Although I don't know why they would....

I say do it as soon as you can. I did my in 1½ days from the time I got okay. I did not want the anxiety of waiting. Plus how last dinners can you have? I just did not want to say goodbye to Diet Coke but I did.

Even once your banded you will still be able to eat most of the foods you ate before. You can wait a little while if you want but these foods are not going to disappear after being banded.

I am banded with good restriction and I can still eat all the bad foods if I wanted to. Heck I can even drink diet coke. Things will change yes but they won't be as easy as simply not being able to eat bad foods. It will still be a challenge to say no. BUt you can do it if you try hard.

Good luck on your journey :)

I had my surgery last year and I actually planned it for October..... after all the summer time goodness but early enough that I was healed and eating regular food by the holidays. I didn't want to be sipping a Protein Shake while everyone else got the good stuff.

Is this your first consult or your last meeting with the surgeon? Not be a downer but if you are just heading into your first consult and are paying with insurance you could be waiting a while. I had my first consult 12/28/09 met with Nurse, Dietician, and Psychologist. They approved my joining the program. From there I had to meet with the dietician twice, the doctor twice, attend 3 group therapy sessions, and lose 30 pounds. Many doctors require weight loss prior to the 2 week liquied diet you've read about. I ended up having to postpone my surgery but I had completed my requirements including weight loss in time for my scheduled surgery of 3/10/10.

Hi viking_girl! Congrats on the lose! Have any of the pre surgery problems changed? BP?

YES!!!

I am diabetic, was on 2 meds prior to surgery and doc wanted me on a third. I was completely off meds TWO DAYS after surgery and my HA1C is now in the normal range.

My blood pressure was high ..... now hovers between normal and slightly elevated.... I have been off all BP meds for several months.

In terms of my health -- the lapband was the best thing I ever did!

I'm hoping for a date before xmas. I figure I've had 33 thanksgivings and 33 christmas's, it won't hurt to miss out on the food once. =)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
