Knowing what you know now would you....get the Lapband again?

Me.....I don't think I would. Lost about 30lbs to start and that's it. Recently I have gain back about 3-4lbs.

Someone at work gained all of her weight back.

Thoughts?

I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It wasn't easy to get to goal...had to be ever vigilant about everything that went in my mouth but the struggles were well worth it. Have been in the maintenance stage for 2 yrs and find it very easy to live this way.

So far, at almost 9 months in, I would totally get it again. I've had no problems and pretty quick weight loss.

Sorry your loss has been so much slower. I do know that the band doesn't work well for everyone and that some people switch to gastric bypass or the sleeve.

YES YES YES!

What you have to remember is that weight loss is not just a do it once process. To stay in a healthy weight range you have to be vigilant about what you eat for life and you should also be exercising. It doesn't matter what sort of WLS surgery you have you still control what you put in your mouth and if that happens to be easy to eat high cal food you will gain weight.

It would be nice if there was a miracle cure that meant that we didn't have to make those good choices for the rest of our lives but there isn't.

Having the band makes the process easier but it doesn't do it for you.

I think that what happens is that many people become complacent and slip back into their old bad eating habits. I don't know if that is what is happening with you but if it is you need to recommit. Go back and see your surgeon. Get an adjustment if you need one. Make good food choices and exercise. Use your band to its full potential and i am sure you will be successful.

Heck yes I would. Look at my ticker.. I'm down 173 lbs in less than 2 years!!

Lundy, do I read your info right? You havent had an adjustment since January of 09? Do you go in for checkups ever so often even if you don't need a fill? Do you go to support group?

And keep in mind that those with less to lose do lose slower.

If you have other health issues, like arthritis or diabetes, that can make the loss a bigger challenge, but still doable. Hang in there and don't give up. We're all pulling for you.

Lately I've been struggling with this question a lot. After getting the band, wow, three years ago next May, I lost a lot of weight and fairly fast, although the last, oh year and a half, I've been dealing with so much depression and stress, haven't gone to the doctors at all, no follow ups or anything after the first year, I've been eating like crazy and hardly working out at all after a devestating knee injury that prevents me from doing almost any cardio. Luckily, I have only gained maybe 10 pounds back, bringing my total weight loss in 2 1/2 years to about 45 pounds or so. I'm not sure whats really causing all of this, I worry that I've totally destroyed my band, some days I can eat an entire pizza, other days three small bites of chicken will make me "slime" for an hour. I know I need to get checked out desperately, but I'm so terrified of actually having my failure out there in front of my doctor (who I haven't seen in forever and probably thinks I moved or died or something.) Getting the lapband so young, I know that I really wasn't ready or perhaps it was the wrong choice for me. I still eat, out of boredom, depression, and just simply that I love food and lots of it. I know I'm stupid for ruining this opportunity, I'm such an "avoider."

I would again, in a heartbeat. Only I wouldn't get single incision through the bellybutton. I would rather have 6-8 small scars than still be dealing with a single incision that won't close (almost 9 months post op).

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
