Not Lap Banded Yet!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

My name is Tony and I live in Tampa, FL. I have type I diabetes and renal deficency. I am 5' 3" and weigh 246 lbs. I don't eat alot during the day, sometimes nothing, but then at night I will binge eat. It's a horrible way to function.

So, my kidney specialist suggested the Lap Band. I have done the research and it seems quite harmless and relatively effective. So, that's a good introduction for me.

Tony

Greetings Tony!

It sounds like you really need a lifestyle change for your healths sake. The lap band is a way to keep you from eating too much at once. It's not a magic fix though and you may want to consider some help with your issues that make you binge. People have had marvelous success with getting their sugar under control with the band too.

Good luck with your journey and keep us posted!

Well the band can certainly help your weight issues however it is only a tool to teach you the correct amount of food you are suppose to eat. I say that because if you do not follow the diet you will not have success and will gain the weight back. I had it done last december and have lost almost 70lbs but I do not eat junk anymore. You have to fix the mental part of why you eat like you do and you have to be ready to adjust to a lifestyle change if not then it wont work.

Hi Tony. I also live in Tampa and am currently working to get the lapband. Have you started looking at surgeons yet?

Hi Tony I live in Palmetto just north of you. I submitted all my paper work on October 28 in the am. That afternoon the same day I was approved. I will be lap band on December 6 2010 with Dr. Scott Stevens in Sarasota. He is excellent, I was referred to him by one of his patients who was 278 and in 8 months was down to 166lb. So what ever you do- make the best decision.

shante87,

You live in Tampa? Do you know when you will be banded? I was referred to a Dr. Murr. I still need to get my procedure approved by Medicare. I hope they do. Keep in touch!

Tony

perussia,

That's amazing that you got something set up so quick! Did you have to attend an orientation class and/or a support group before submitting your paperwork? Good luck with everything.

Tony

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
