typical dinner meal after surgery

Recommended Posts

So I was wondering what would be some good meals for after surgery when I can eat normal foods again. lol.

my dr. said that I should eat Protein first, then veggies, then carbs if im still hungry. so my question is do you have any favorite recipes? Thanks!

I live alone so I am not very inventive. I often have fish for dinner 3oz baked (wet with eggbeaters, cover in italian bread crumbs + lemon pepper seasoning (non salt!), bake in the oven (wide variety of fish to choose from). You could do the same with chicken breast. I also microwave a sweet potatoe which is enough for two meals.

My paperwork from my nutrition said 1 month after surgery you should only be eating 2-3 tables spoons, 1-4 cup 3 months out. Plus a snack between meals. Im looking at the paperwork she gave us and this is what it states. Is that what everyone else is told?

I've been eating a lot of fish with a side of steamed veggie. I've also made tomato/feta topped baked eggplant a few times, and have also had meatballs (3-4 small meatballs will fill you up- amazing). chicken salad and Tomato with fresh mozzarella in vinegar have also been favorites. Shredded chicken sauted with onions and peppers (like fajita) and topped with some sour cream and salsa was yum.

I do low carb, so I typically don't do starches though every once in a while I will have a baked potato when I go out to eat with my husband and feel iffy about what's on the menu.

I don't eat poultry, red meat or pork so we have a lot of seafood and tofu. I like to make vegetarian chili loaded with tofu (I usually can eat a cup). Yesterday I made Sole stuffed with cheesy broccoli-quinoa. The sole fillets were between 2.5-2.75 ounces, and I stuffed each with about .5 cup of the quinoa mixture (if you haven't ever eaten quinoa, try it. its a great, healthy alternative to rice and its packed with Protein and nutrients. Heres a good article Quinoa: A Healthful Alternative to Rice - Ingredient swap - Revolution Health ). I was able to eat about 8/10 of the filet and quinoa (it was probably a little over 3/4s of a cup that I ate if you wanted to measure it that way). When I'm not in the mood for seafood, I love to make homemade edamame burgers. I just posted the recipe on my blog if you want to try to make them. Each burger is 1/3 of a cup and I'm generally able to eat one burger and then I'm done.

I love that the band has given me the opportunity to look at what I cook with, and experiment with alternative ingredients. I love to cook, and its a hobby of mine to try and reduce calories, substitute healthier ingredients (like quinoa instead of rice...or skim cheese instead of full fat cheese) and I've even been experimenting with baking! I made a pumpkin pie cupcake with under 100 calories per cupcake and it tastes like the real thing. Have fun!

Awhenry, I think you should speak to the doctor's office. At 4 weeks I was moved to solids and was told to have 3 oz of Protein + vegetables. They said at restriction that I should be able to eat 4 oz at a setting. That is way more than 1/4 of a cup. Take out a measuring cup and check that out. And by 4 oz I mean by weight not by volume.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
