I had a fill yesterday and even Clear Liquids feel like they are too much... It feels like the liquid it right there. I don't feel like I need to throw up but it just feels like it's not going down fast enough??? Can anyone help?

If the liquids are going, but a little slow, I think you need to wait a bit before thinking you are too tight. Sometimes a fill can cause a bit of swelling. Stick with ice cold liquids for a couple days. Cold helps swelling go down. Slowly move to thicker liquids like yogurt smoothies or ice cold Protein Shakes. If you can slowly move on to soft food you may be in the "green zone" for awhile.

I had a fill on thursday. This was my second. My first was 2cc and on thursday he added 1 cc to put me at a total of 3cc. Friday I thought I was going to die... I couldnt keep any liquids down hardly and def. not any food. Saturday i could keep liquids down but still no food. Now today I am a lot better and I can eat mushy food. I think I had some swelling that has now subsided and I think i will def. be in my green zone for a while

Thanks for the suggestions. This was my 4th fill since May... I'm still having problems with mushies and even soup! I hope I stay in the green zone, I think I'm still in the psychological stage of feeling I need the food and wanting it... Oh well I hope I lose! I was banded May 4th, 2010 and I've lost 38lbs to date, but I haven't seen the scale move much in 2 months especially with my all inclusive trip to Mexico. Lol.

Carmen, When they put in a fill during surgery they don't put in much to allow for swelling. I say yes, get the fill when you go. Of course talk it over with your Dr. when you are there.

They say to go back to the liquid diet after a fill because a lot of folks experience swelling and are tight for a bit.....my first fill I felt nothing....my second I did notice it was significantly tighter for 2-3 days afterwards and I did stick to mostly shakes and Soups...just take it easy and slowly - don't try and drink too fast. I read on another post that hot liquids help....?

My doc won't do fills unless you aren't losing well or you feel you are able to eat the right amount of food and still be hungry between meals.....you want to be careful and not fill too fast and then have to take it out....talk to the doc, they know lots more on the subject than we do!

Good luck!

I would say that if you are in your "green zone" don't get the fill, but as soon as you start to get hungry or grazing between meals make an appt ASAP! I dont know how ur dr works but its pretty easy for me to get in a for a fill.

My doc has a sign on the wall in the fill rooms that shows you what to look for when determining whether you need a fill, are at the right restriction or overfilled.

If you're losing weight and aren't hungry, then you're 'just right'. If you stop losing weight and are struggling with overeating or snacking, then you don't have enough restriction. If you're constantly getting stuck, coughing at night, have reflux or pain in the abdoment, you're overfilled.

Thank you for the advice hummingbird, I went today..the surgeon said she put 4 cc's in the day of surgery and that I am doing good, losing weight pretty well and all the feelings that I have when I eat indicate that I am at a good fill point. I am relieved. I see her again in 3 mos!

That is great! I think 4cc is a large amount to put in at surgery, but there must be some way they figure out how much to put in. I think mine was 2.7cc. If you start getting way too hungry between meals you should just call and move your appointment up. It sounds like you are well on your way!

I didn't have any cc's put in at surgery and I get fills every 2-4 weeks. I am also a self pay. I'm not sure how it works with insurance. I also wanted to report that I've lost 7 lbs since last saturday when I got the fill!!! I am so excited. At this point I dont really care I haven't been able to eat like I used to. I think it was all psychological. Last night I was able to eat a little salmon and spinach... not my normal 1/2 cup of food but I'm eating my Vitamins and doing Protein shakes... So I think I'm getting my nutritional needs met. I'm just so happy to see the scale moving again after a 2 month stall. I only have 30 more lbs to go. I am so thankful for this forum, since I decided to not tell anyone except for my husband that I had the surgery. Thanks for listening and your responses!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
