Okay ladies lets talk clothes

Recommended Posts

I need some new ones both tops and jeans.

Where do you ladies shop at? Most of what I find lately are tops that are so thin and sheer they show every little fat roll I have and then jeans that are so stretchy that they fit perfect for the first hour and then after that they are saggy, baggy and falling off of me.

Any tips on where to find some good thick shirts and some jeans with little to no stretch in them?

Spoiltmom...try Fashion Bug. If you are not near a store, go online. If you are worried about the jeans stretching out (that drives me nuts), make sure they have not more than 2% lycra. I like the 100% cotton jeans.

I have been at goal for about 2 yrs and I still make a stop at the local Fashion Bug for my long or short sleeve t-shirts in different colors. They are not clingy like some. Gotta watch though...some of theirs are. Look for the cotton count. I even found a couple of cool knee high boots there last year for $40 each. Give it a try.

I'll check it out. I prefer 100% cotton also but man that's so hard to find these days. I have a few pair left from Old Navy that I love but they are 14's and I'm in a 16 right now.

I also plan to look at Goodwill this week and see what they have.

Here's a few places to look. Just go to their sites and type in 100% cotton jeans in their search.

LL Bean

Lucky Brand

Amazon

Trade Tang

Trade Key

Good luck!

Having my weight go up-and-down my entire life, I've saved clothes in every size from 16 to 30. I was excited to get back into smaller sizes, but discovered that they didn't fit quite the same way they did the first (or second) time around. My weight has come off in different places than in the past. Finally I just gave up and packed 30 bags of clothes and donated them.

When I shop now, I bring to the dressing room outfits that I might have never tried on before and am pleasantly surprised at the way clothes fit my body now.

I never thought I'd wear a pair of tights.

Hey guys, I thought I read a thread a few months ago about a clothing exchange for LB patients. Anyone know anything about this? I havent been banded yet but have lost enough to need some clothes with my pre opt diet. I get banded this wend. I wish I know more about it. Sounds like a great ideal. If you find anything out please post it. I so know what you mean about the stretchy stuff it is definatly not made for people with my shape. Good luck and have fun shopping:)

There is a plus size consignment shop in a town not too far from where I live. I got a few things there and plan to sell a closet full. I am no longer in plus sizes, so need to visit the other consignment shops.

I like Ross. I found a pair of the famous Not Your Daughter's Jeans there ..usually 100.00 or so.. for only 20.00.

I also like the Gloria Vanderbilt line of jeans, esp. the "Amanda" cut for my body type. She has other cuts for differing types. GV jeans are available at Bealls (which might be Stage other places.. and maybe Fashion Bug?).

My support group has clothing exchanges from time to time. Ask your coordinator if they would have one.

It's hard when you're in the losing phase, because you don't necessarily want to invest a lot of $$ on the higher-quality clothes. I was glad I'd saved good jeans (I like the Talbots basic 5-pocket jeans) from various sizes over the years. It's nice not to have to shell out $$ for new jeans every month or two!

Now that I'm nearing goal, and staying in each size for a little while, I'm buying a good pair as I move into each size. For shirts, I've pilfered from my kids--they have nice clothes! As I buy, I'm choosing things like J. Crew, Talbots, places that use nice fabrics and good cuts/tailoring.

I am so glad to be free of Lane Bryant and the poor-quality fabrics they use. (I always did like their jeans, though.)

I agree! Lane Bryant is ridiculously overpriced and has poor quality clothing. I refuse to shop there.

I figured if I had to buy lower quality fabrics I'd pay less for it at places like Fashion Bug. And, believe it or not, I've had many items purchased at Fashion Bug and Kohls outlast items from Lane Bryant.

Kohls is another place that you can find items regularly on sale. When I can get a couple new items for a few bucks I don't feel as badly about spending money on clothes I know I'll likely to be out of in a couple months.

I know this isn't much help to the shoppers, but I've had great luck in my own closet. I guess being a packrat during the last several years is finally paying off! I have made a deal with myself not to do too much shopping until I'm much nearer my goal. In the meantime, smaller sizes and slightly dated clothes from our guest closet will have to do!

Check out Salvation Army and Goodwill stores. The Goodwill stores near us have clothes from stores with tags still on them. You can sort through clothes. There is one Goodwill store near us that has "uptown" clothes. Another idea is to join your local Yahoo Freecycle group. In addition to giving away clutter you don't want, you can get clothes, shoes, etc. free from that source also. Some people won't do that, but it is an option. I have given away shoes and clothes I haven't worn before.

Daisy Fuentes has a really cute line (with plus sizes) at Kohl's. I shop there and at Fashion Bug (for now...I have about 2 more sizes until I'm in "normal" sized clothing!)

I started a Clothes Exchange community on LiveJournal but it's been a bit of a bust so far to be honest.

I like shopping clearance at Macy's and Belk's, and I absolutely don't allow myself to buy anything that fits perfectly right now-- it has to fit, but it has to be something I can wear for a while as I lose.

I also shop at Ross and TJ Maxx a lot for good prices on clothes. TJ Maxx tends to have better quality clothes than Ross.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
