Help...My port flipped????

Recommended Posts

:crying:Hi

I had my surgery on Monday 10/4/10 and I thought I had just been feeling gas pains and discomfort from the gas. On Friday evening I started vomiting. I only did maybe 3 times, but that was enough for me. I woke up on Saturday morning just not feeling well, so I went to the ER.:puke: I was dehydrated, and the Lapband Docs were called in because my band is too tight. So they took me back to take some Fluid out and could not do it!! Two Docs tried and neither could access the port. They finally decided my port had flipped over???? SO they gave me some more anti nausea meds and a steriod injection to try and get some of the swelling down. I was told to crush all my meds and drink only warm Clear Liquids. They told me they are going to have to go back in and fix the port... So I was sent home and I am extremely uncomfortable and sick to my stomach. I have my 2nd post op tomorrow and I guess that is when they are going to tell me when the next surgery will be. As odd as it sounds I still have no regrets, and Just consider this a bump in the road but I am so ready to feel better and heal!!!:):crying::crying:

I am sorry to hear that. My port is like half flipped and they dig and dig to get mine and I am considering having them do a revision so I don't have to go through them doing that every time. Good luck

I am new to this and just starting to research the Lap Band. I am giving it great consideration. But, what is a flipped port? Do you know what causes it? Good luck on your journey and I hope things get better. DRP

Christi,

I was banded on Aug 5th, my port flipped as well, I had surgery to fix it on the 26th of Sept. ( I think that was the date LOL) surgery was not bad, came home later that day, and I have done fine since. My doctor said that this time he sutured the port in place, before he said the "little anchors" that "hook into the muscle" had come loose. Good luck to you. I agree this was a little bump in the road. :puke:

I was banded Aug. 3. About 10 days out had an "uncontrolled pop" of my port incision. Antibiotics helped it heal. I went for my first fill on Sept. 15 and found out my port had flipped. I had port revision surgery on Sept. 27. A week later and another "pop". Back on antibiotics. Scheduled for (hopefully) first fill on Wed. Still down 40 lbs and off a lot of medications.

Thank you all for your support!! Just knowing that others have gone thru this makes me feel better. I was really worried when they told me it had flipped. Then I was even more worried about how I was goning to deal with this tightness......

I am scheduled for a port revision on 10/28, and I am feeling alot better today FINALLY!!!!! I was able to finally have some full liquids, and they were so delicious!!! lol!! I have lost 25 pounds since 9/3/10.

I can't wait to start getting life together with my new friend!!! (my Lapband) lol :smile2::thumbup:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
