10 days post op on regular food!

Recommended Posts

So I went to the doctors 1 week after my surgery while I was still on my liquid diet and he told me I was fine to start eating regular solid food. I've been eating chicken, eggs, salad etc. I feel like this is way too early but like I said the doctor said it was fine but I look on this site and it seems everyone else's doctor doesn't let them for weeks. Hmm anyone else out there eat solid food this early?

Thanks! :smile2:

Hi there. There seems to be a general pattern of diet of

Clear Liquids first then pureed/liquidized food then mashed food then solids. How is your body reacting to the whole food? I made up mind to take responsibility for my own health on every level so I take Vitamins every day and try and follow the diet rules. I also checked up on the internet to see what nutritionists advised - I just typed in Lapband post op diet and there was lots of stuff about it. Good luck and well done for questioning as it's your success and health that's important.

I started eating more solid foods about 9-10 days after and I'm fine. I just really chew the food.< /p>

Personally I think I would do a modified diet for a least a few more days. At day ten I was still on Soups like Tomato, non fat cream of chicken, etc.. I would just make sure you are getting your 60 grams of Protein via shakes etc. At 15 days I was allowed to start adding cottage cheese, ricotta. At 21 days I could have shredded chicken and tuna. He/she is your doctor but that doesn't mean you can't be more conservative as long as you are getting the required nutrition.

A big however, is that my doctor does not want me to have liquid meals once I was moved to solids in week 4. I still occationaly have a Ready to Drink shake when I am having a rushed morning.

My surgeon gave me the green light to move onto "regular" food at 14 days.

Just take it slow; listen to your surgeon and call him if you have any issues.

Thank you everyone! I'm doing pretty good just eating very small and chewed up bites. I eat mostly eggs. I tried to eat thin sliced ham and it got stuck; awful feeling! My surgeon doesn't give a fill until a month after surgery so I don't really have much restriction, I'm just trying to eat very small meals.

Thank you everyone for the responses. Hope everyone is doing well! :smile2:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
