Restrictions and so on...

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I got my band on Aug 31st and Ive only lost about 13lbs! I don't believe I have any restrictions!!! For real, I can eat ANYTHING, but I do get fuller faster than before I had my band and know when to stop eating. I hear everyone say they have restrictions and that some foods get stuck and Ive also heard some talk about even throwing up. Should I be feeling the same or am I going to feel this when I get my first fill???

Oh Precious! It's gonna be okay. It was totally like that for me too in the beginning. I had calculated out how I was going to be down 50lbs within 3 months and skinny within a year! You are going to do just fine. Yeah, I felt the same way before my fills. I could eat anything I wanted and did on a lot of days. It took several fills before I had restriction. I'm now at my sweet spot and I'm grateful that I took those first months just getting used to making sure that I was getting all of my Protein in and getting all of the nutrients from food that I needed. I also started walking. I was 322 lbs and so it really hurt my feet and one of my knees and I could only walk for about 15 minutes. I have now lost 120-130 lbs and I'm walking 3 miles 3 days a week and feel great. Be good and patient with yourself. Feel good about the times that you are eating just to nourish your body and ignore the old messages in your head and those times that you slip back into old eating habits. Get the book Women, Food and God. That really helped me a bunch. I hope you have a wonderful day!

You're doing fine, I'm almost 4 months out and am only down 50 lbs. I was soo upset and my doctor said T u are losing about 10-15 per month HOW MUCH DO U EXPECT TO LOSE!!! And then he said if u wanted to lose that quickly than maybe u should of had gastric bypass. After letting that marinate for a minute I thought u know he is RIGHT. We want it to come off so quickly but we gain it slowly. I'm gonna get that book that Karen suggested. Who's the author? You will be fine keep me updated...Remember YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!

It's Geneen Roth... Women, food & God. I gave up weighing myself back in June so I don't know exactly what I weigh. I know that I'm down to an 18 from a 30/32 and it keeps coming off. I am so glad to not have the scale dictate how I'm gonna feel today. I eat healthy and I exercise and I look at my thoughts whenever I feel the urge to binge. I didn't get up to 322 without having some food issues, lol, so there are still times when I just want to gobble up something big and fattening. I knew that just because I got the lapband that if my thinking didn't change, that I would be one of those that didn't lose any weight. I can still get 1/2 gallon of ice cream down and a huge bag of fritos if I want. I didn't want to go thru something like this and gain it all back. It's a really good book. Let me know if you have any questions.

I was banded on 8/25 and I initially lost like 10 lbs and then seemed to level off. I got very upset and my husband put it in perspective for me. The inital 10 lbs was pretty much Water weight and I was on liquids only. Then on the 3rd week I went to softer foods (higher intake of cals, etc) so I hit plateau. Then I started walking 1.5 miles a day and stayed at like a 20lbs for the next 3 weeks. What you can see is the changes in my body. Although I may not be losing as fast as I want, I am changing rapidly, adding lean muscle which weighs more than fat and losing the cellulite. I have gone down two dress sizes. Now I am starting to lose 2 lbs per week and feeling a little more satisfied with the struggle.

I have been very strict with my diet though. I only eat what is high in Protein and low fat/cals and sugar. I drink plenty of Water and am now pretty committed to an exercise regiment. I dont even try to eat things I am not supposed to. I dont think it is worth it. The whole point of doing this surgery is to change your behavior as well as have the tool of the band to help with hunger and restrict your eating too much.

For Breakfast I have two eggs or Greek yogurt, a sm cup of coffee about 30-45 min later, then Isopure juice which I sip on all day long. lunch I will have greek yogurt or left over Protein (fish/chicken) 4/0z or less. then about 30-45 min later an EAS choc shake (takes me about 15-20 min to drink, then back to the Isopure and water sipping all day long, then dinner is protein only 4 oz fish/chicken, etc. I use my Calcuim chews choc from Viactive as my deserrt because they really taste like little peices of fudge. My reward. I do not allow myself a cheat. I have my first adjustment next week and things are going to get more restricted and I dont want to be surprised.

I wish you luck and dont be discouraged. I think what you and I went through is natural. We expected big numbers and they weren't, but now it is coming off more steadily. Give yourself and your body a chance to adjust and I would really start to concentrate on your diet and cal v. burn ratio.

Ok, so I got my band on Aug 31st and Ive only lost about 13lbs! I don't believe I have any restrictions!!!

If the band is already helping, it may be that your surgeon gave you a slight fill when they put the band in. Some do. Or it may be that you're one of the lucky ones who gets restriction just from the band.

In any case, 13# from August 31st is more than 2# a week so good for you! That is excellent progress!

No, you don't want to slime or get stuck or have to urp up something that's stuck. The best way to avoid this is to take small bites, chew thorough, don't drink with meals and pay attention to which foods give you problems. For example, many people have difficulties with bread. There will be times you will get stuck on something that gave you no problem the day before. That's just life in the band lane but it doesn't have to be more than a rare occurrence.

Omg thank you everyone! I know its all about change and that I am the ONLY one who can change. I know it takes time and I have to change my eating habits, I do know that Protein is a huge deal!!! My goal is to lose at least 90lbs all together! Im trying to get my friends and family on Facebook to do a New Years challenge with me, I figure if I work hard I can lose an easy 30lbs...

Karen- Thank you for your help! I agree with ya about thinking how am I going to be skinny in such a short amount of time lol What is this book about? Ill check it out and let ya know!!! Im hopefully going to start swimming on Oct 1st, thats when we get paid. But I do know that exercising is a major part of weight lose! I know when to stop eating at times, just not all the time! I do my Wii which weighs me everyday/or when I do it lol I do know that I tried on a pair of my old jeans and I fit them!!! That was exciting:)

Tross- Ya, I know I was debating on the 2 surgeries. I figured I didnt want them cutting me into pieces, and that I just wanted the extra push for help cuz I know I can lose weight if I have help. Thats why I choose the band, if the band doesnt work for me in the future I know if Im desperate I can always get the bypass.

Ali- Thank you for telling me what ya eat daily. Ive been trying to figure out how one gets in all their Protein and not alot of calories! On most days I tend to have a Slim-Fast for Breakfast, Yoplait yogurt for lunch, then a nice dinner on a SMALL plate with much smaller portions then I used to, for snack ill share a 100 calorie package of Cookies with my daughter or another yogurt. But like I said I know Im not getting enough protein! I think Im going to steal your meal plan lol I always wondered about those Calcium chews, do they really taste good??? What is this Isopure you are talking about???

Elfie- The 13lbs is really from before my surgery to my follow up appointment with my doc on Sept 7th. No I do not wanna get anything stuck nor do I wanna throw up. I do though wanna feel what everyone calls "restriction" lol I cant eat without at least baby sips when eating, I know I know...its bad  I do though eat slow and take small bites lol :)

Hey Precious.

Don't forget that your body needs calories to metabolize what it's taking in. We all want to get to this really small need for food, and we can.. Sadly though it won't help.

I went nuts after surgery 7/20/2010. I loved the fact that I was never hungry and so I barely was eating. I recently did a very honest food journal for my nutritionist. I was so pleased that I was consuming between 500 - 750 calories a day. I should have been losing huge amounts, I gained. The nutritionist explained to me that my body was hording. We actually will lose better eating about 1,200 calories a day. Much less and your metabolism slows down. Gotta metabolize. I am now at 1,200 calories a day and losing again. Lost 7 pounds in the 2 weeks since I saw her last.

Don't not eat!

Don't do what will harm you.

I felt the same way until I got my first fill. I ate just like I did before the band. I was still hungry ALL the time and never felt full. For me the first fill stopped all that.

Good Luck!!

Fool- Yeah I used to do really good when I would write everything down, that I do need to start doing again! Thanks for reminding me! So I should be trying to eat around 1,200 calories??? Hmmm I think that might be a bit hard, Im not that hungry...if I make myself eat more I feel like Ill get sick

Spoil-Yeah I feel if I get a fill things will change so much for me! See Im not ALWAYS hungry and I do get full, I just feel as Im not getting a restriction, its weird.

Precious,

The Isopure is a 20 Oz bottle of 40g Protein juice, 160 cals, 0 sugar and 0 carbs. Stright up it is kind of hard to take, but I cut it in 1/2 w/ Crystal Light pink Lemonade and drink 2/day to get the 40g. I like it better than any of the choc and powder type shakes.

To lower your cals and increase your Protein, switch to the Chobani Greek yougurt (14 g protein) and a shake that concentrates on a higher protein punch like EAS Myoplex.

Stay away from anything that replicates a bad habit. The Cookies that you share w/ your daughter. Switch that up to the Viactive Calcium chews. They really are good. You take 2 chews to meet your min day requirement and it hits the sweet spot perfectly.

Here are a couple of sites to help you. The first is a food/exercise journal and you dont have to sign up for a paid membership, you can use the site w/out it with limitations: www.fitday.com . You can even add foods that it cant find, just by adding the nutrition info into the "create a food". I also get nutrition info here: Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com Both sites are really helpful.

I am with you partner. Feel free to email me if you want to chat and need support: alilbittyna@yahoo.com

I get the Isopure at the Vitamin Shoppe (but you should be able to get it at any nutrition store, i.e. GNC). ISOPURE I get it by the case at the Vitamin Shoppe. I get the EAS premade shakes at costco again, a case at a time.

The yogurt does have a little bit of a different taste at first, just mix it good and now I like it better than any other yogurt I have ever eaten (and I ate a yogurt every day even before surgery).

I started walking about 1.5 weeks after surgery (1.65 miles on my lunch half hour). I think I pushed too hard though and gave myself shin splints. So I have taken a week off, but I have really learned to like it. Gives me a break during the day and I get that extra exercise. Once the doc tells me I can I am going to switch to the elliptical machine. I have one in my house. Because of the arm motion they didnt want me doing it too early for fear it would hurt my surgery recovery. I will do that 3 days a week and still walk at lunch. I can really feel it this week that I have not walked.

Let me know what you think of the websites.

I get the EAS shakes at wal-mart. I can get them their in the 4 pack, so I can change up the flavor. I did get a case of the choc flavored at Sam's...so I got strawberry and vanilla at wal mart.. I get bored with one flavor to easy. The Isopure I have been wanting to try...just have not got it yet. the Viactive chews are as good as the other posters say. I get the caramel flavored ones and I also get SF chocoltes that I will treat myself with sometimes in the evenings. Hope this helps.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
