When does the weight REALLY start to fall off?

I am 4 weeks post op and have not seen any weight loss since the first week after my surgery, I was wondering when does the weight really start to drop?

I eat small portions drink my Water and have started walking. Should I start losing more after my fills? I mean 12 lbs is not all I will lose is it? :lol:

lol im on the same boat as you are! i got my band on aug 31st and since then ive lost the same as you have! i dont believe im eating enough Protein tho. im trying to find meal plans where it has low calories and high protein for Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Snacks. im also going to start back up on writing down everything i eat, it makes weight loss easier! well keep me updated!

I lost 20 the first month after surgery and then slowed to about 3 lbs a month. Until I got my 3rd or 4th fill which was about 7 months after surgery. I have been doing well. Since May I have lost almost 30. Seem to have hit a slow down right now, but have awesome restriction still.

Remember...the band is not a magic wand. The weight will fall off when your eating habits change...less food, less junk...and when you have a more active lifestyle (which you may already have).

I'm 10 months postop. I have a fairly active lifestyle but I do not exercise. By 3 months post op I had lost 30 pounds...and that's it until about June when I dropped another 32 pounds...which I immediately put back on in the next month from being too tight and eating slider foods because I was tired of being stuck several times on a daily basis.

After my unfill I was fortunate to maintain the original 30 pound loss. Two weeks ago I had another fill and have dropped about 5 pounds but it's a struggle because I still do not have restriction and am beginning to think that sweet spot is 'in the head' and I may never find mine.

At any rate, I wouldn't expect the weight to just fall off. Count on having to diet and exercise...or increase your activity in some way if you want it to start falling off.

I am feeling the same way. I was banded Aug 23rd. I have little to no restriction. I am tracking my calories and eating high Protein foods. I am losing about 1 pound a week. On one hand, I am very glad not to be gaining anymore, but on the other hand I am jealous of people posting 5-10lb a week weightloss. I am getting my first fill Oct 8th and I hope it will reduce my portions at least a little and I will be able to drop my calorie goal from 1200 to 1000. If I can get a steady 2lb a week weightloss I will be happier.

I am still not banded I have a date for Nov. and I am scared reading these posts. How can you eat such low calories and not lose weight?? If it was a matter of calories in and calories out weight loss should be a given. This is why I am so hesitant at times of the operation. I think I will lose my mind if I go through all of this and it does not work! I know you have to work it and I work it now and the weight is not coming off. I do eat too much though and that is what I was hoping it would help with. I feel so bad for you guys and I am scared to be in the same boat!

It never really "fell off". I lost 20 pounds over the first 3 weeks due to liquids and mushies, but then again, I did not have any pre-op diet. It seems that those who have a pre-op diet don't seem to lose as much on the liquid phase as those who didn't. After that it has been a steady 2 pounds a week - most of that without restriction. I am six and a half months out and did not acheive restriction until 5 plus months out. I hegan a walking program right away - started with 1/2 a mile 2-3 times a week Now up to 3 miles 4-5 times a week. It really makes a difference.

I agree with the above post- excersise really does do wonders. If your not already doing it I highly reccomend you start.

The weight never falls off. You have to work it and it really has nothing to do with the band or fills or even restriction.

You lose the weight by eating right and exercising. The band just helps in keeping your portion sizes down.

Are you drinking at least 64 ounces of Water a day and getting 50 grams of Protein? These are imperative in losing weight.

Are you keeping a food log? You may be eating less than you think? Most of us under estimate when we don't log it.

Are you eating too little. Eating less than 800 calories a day can make your body go into a starvation mode where it holds onto everything it can?

It also may be that you've jut hit a plateau already. They happen. Some of us hit them after 20 pounds, others after 120 pounds but we all hit them.

No matter the reason, do NOT let it get you down. Keep a positive attitude and think of a way to beat it.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
