I miss some favs

Recommended Posts

Since my 3rd fill I have had to cross several of my favorite foods off the list. My #1 food I miss is salad, I love salad and would eat it for Snacks but now the lettuce just gets stucks and comes back. I also love cabbage and broccoli but the gas is horrible. What do I eat, those are health foods and now I'm having trouble with those. I'm sick of yogurt!

Give it a little while, and try again. I had difficulty with salad, too---even when I had far less fill than I do now.

But now I do fine with it--thank goodness! (When I was on my pre- and post-op diets, I fantasized about and craved salad; I would really be unhappy giving it up!)

Be sure to chew VERY well (and consider starting with more tender greens, torn into very small pieces), because there's something about leaves; they can lie across the stoma and create quite an obstruction without actually being stuck.

My doctor's advice, and my personal experience, is to give foods that cause trouble another try after letting things calm down for a while. Avoid these things for a little while, then gradually reintroduce them, one at a time.

Broccoli is a problem for me, in terms of getting stuck. I have switched to broccoli slaw, which I adore (raw, with an Asian dressing, or very quickly cooked), and causes no problem. If your problem is gas, chances are your body would have decided, band or no, that it was going to give you that problem (yes, even after years of tolerating it)----but you can take care of that with something like Beano. It really works :smile2:

Once I started getting fills, even without restriction, salad and things like broccoli were a no-no. I'd get stuck every time. At some point, we realized I had too much fill and I had them back it down to 6cc...no restriction. I left it like that for 7 weeks because 2 weeks after the unfill, I could eat salads again and I didn't want to give that up.

I finally went in for a fill and they put in 1cc...and I can still eat salads! In fact, it used to be that I couldn't eat salads at 6cc. Don't know what changed but I'm not complaining.

If you look at the mixed salads in a bag, they give a number rating based on texture and tenderness. I eat the mixed baby greens because they are the most tender. Romaine is still a thing of the past for me.

There thousands of varieties of lettuce. Which ones have you tried that don't work for you? Have tried a few?

I'm partial to romaine but eat a lot of iceberg (Boston) lettuce.

The one thing I do miss is just being able to eat a normal sandwich (not toasted, not grilled) - just a sandwich.

Other than that, not much.

i think there are a lot of people that have had to adjust to not being able to eat certain foods and it IS rough! i can no longer eat bread so i miss pizza and grilled cheese and breadsticks and.... i can go on and on.

even 2+ years post-op i still miss those foods... but i've learned to adapt. now i just eat the toppings off the pizza which is the best part anyway!

Wondering.......are there still banded folks who drink alcohol?? I'm not interested in drinking. But not even a casual glass of wine in the years? Doesn't bother me really. Worth the sacrifice.

I've had a glass of wine, just beware, what you could drink heavier, is different than what you can drink thin! I know!!!!

The thing I miss the most is pretzles. I know they are carbs and never good for you but I still miss them.

Then I hear on Dr, Oz. yesterday that they add additional high fructose corn Syrup. Boy you just can't win. His program was sure a bummer yesterday.

My doctor is not a fan of salads and prefers we not eat them. He says that the dressing, any dresssing, is like eating liquid ice cream. You know who I go to if you have heard this because I know he has said it a million times and at every group.

I drink socially and tend to over-socialize all of the time. :)

I miss alchohol, although I have felt empowered a bit since giving it up. My doc says no-no for 4 months post-surgery. I am compliant with one exception. Football parents go out together after high school football games. I have a tradition of doing a shot of tequilia with a certain group of dads after a win. I just couldn't break the tradition and I don't want to call attention to myself as no one knows about my banding. Umm...we are undefeated so far :). Well, it's Friday and I'm looking forward to another shot of tequilia...1800 Silver, chilled, is my favorite:drool:. I usually stick to beer and wine, but I will not return to beer. I am a wine snob wannabe, so I plan to start enjoying wine again at Thanksgiving.

Yes - I still have the occasional glass of wine or margarita! (however, my surgeon said no, until 6 months post op and I DID abide by that rule)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
