Post Op Weight Gain???

Recommended Posts

I was banded Monday morning and have been very bloated since. I know the gas and bloat are normal at first, but was so bad last night I decided to step on the scale. It says I am up 10 pounds from Monday morning pre-op weigh in. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Hi there... you don't need to worry. I was banded 8 days ago and my weight went up too. Remember the drip you were on? You are carrying a lot of Fluid in your body. 4days after the op my weight just dropped off and now I'm less than my weigh in weight on the day of the op. My clothes are looser and I can feel the difference. Just rest, relax and let your body heal - you are going to wake up one of these mornings to a sudden drop in weight. Promise!

I was banded two weeks ago. I was very bloated for several days, but didn't weigh myself. I think I'm still a little bloated, but I can tell I've lost. During my follow-up, I learned that I had lost 17 lbs since my pre-op on 08/26. Now I've gained back about 3 lbs. I called and talked to the surgeon's assistant and she said I was probably okay. It's just because I've been able to start eating little bits of soft food and with the exercise, maybe i've gained some muscle (which weighs more than fat). It is disappointing though. My first fill is 10/07, I am looking forward to seeing what it is like and expect more to come off after that. Maybe a little before, hopefull?

Hi there. I was banded last week Tuesday and the same happened to me. Called a friend who had it 8 months ago and it happened to her too. It lasted a few days and suddenly BOOM the weight came off. The drip I was on added the weight and my body was in shock so a lot of Water was retained. I'm sure it's the same for most of us banders. Congratulations on taking such a huge step and taking charge of yourself. May your journey be more smooth than bumpy. Warm wishes, Des

Thanks for the support!!! You were all right, it all dropped off overnight last night and I feel like a different person. Still some minor bloating and gas, and soreness at the incision sights, but feeling so much better!

Great news.... it's so encouraging when that happens. It seems to be the way one goes with losing the weight. A few days the same and then a drop. I've been the same weight for three days now so expecting the drop tomorrow.

I gained 5lbs post-op but mine didn't seem to suddenly drop off. It gradually came off over a two week period. So I started pre-op at 211, a week post-op I was 216 and now at 4 1/2 weeks post-op I am 207.

You have just proved what all the literature about banding says. Each of us loses in different ways - a sudden drop is nice but slow and steady is what I'm looking for so that I don't get saggy and baggy. Thanks for posting - we can't make hard and fast rules and everyones different. Important thing is to keep going....

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
