Consultation, Psych Eval & Nutr. Counseling all in One DAY!

Recommended Posts

Am I crazy? lol I am really trying to speed the process along as much as I can. I'm really wanting to get this done before the 1st of the year. I've already done my 2 support groups. I've talked to my ins and I'm not required to do any supervised diet. Just have a BMI of 40 or over and I do. I even went and got a referral from my PCP and then was told my insurance didn't even require that! I got all of my medical records, even though insurance doesn't require a 5 year history. I talked to the insurance coordinator this morning and she said she has seen patients come in, have all of their appointments finished before their consultations and have surgery two weeks later. OH I HOPE THAT COULD BE ME!! lol I doubt it though, I know they have to get my insurance approval and all. I have United Health Care which I heard was pretty easy. The only thing I KNOW i have left to do is the Pre-Operative class. Any advise on anything else I can do to speed up the process? I have the consultation 9/23 at 8:30, the psych eval at 11:00 and the nutritional counseling at 2:30. lol wish me luck

How did you schedule all that in one day? And know exactly what to schedule? I have UHC for Railroad and would like to do the same. Any info would be great..My seminar is on Nov 13th..

Depending on your surgeon.. My surgeon's office takes care of them all at different times. After the initial consultation they schedule the other appointments for different times.. UHC requires a 6 month medically supervised diet.. IDK if it helps but ask someone in your surgeons office how long the process is with UHC.. I finished all of my appointments within a month.. Now I'm just waiting for the gathering of paperwork to send for approval.. If you have any questions.. Send me a Message..

Not all UHC requires a 6 month diet, mine did not. I think it depends on your coverage and what your employer selected. When I went to the seminar they gave me a packet of what all they require you to do. In the packet they gave me the name of the psychiatrist. I called the front desk lady at the surgeons office and told her that i was hoping to get it done before the first of the year and asked her if there was anything I could do to speed up the process and she went ahead and booked me to see the nutritionist on the same day as my dr's visit. And it worked, I have my approval from UHC and my surgery is scheduled for Nov. 16th! :sneaky:

I had all my appointment in one day! I had to travel far to get to my doctor. the Surgeon's off help me set up appointments the next day. i had upper GI, then went to physician for EKG and check up, then had meeting with dietitian, then meet with fitness person, THEN had the physic appointment. I got my surgery date that day too. The date was penciled in just in case there was a problem but it is firm now. the only thing I needed to do when I got home was have lab work done and a chest xray.

The staff also set me up with an on line seminar that i was able to log on to.

I did all this Oct 18th and 19th. I am having surgery on December 8th. That is a day that I picked out because i have a long way to travel to get there! It will be my Christmas present to myself!

I have my approval from UHC and my surgery is scheduled for Nov. 16th!

Congrats! I did something similar. I saw everybody on September 29th, had one followup on October 14th, and I got my surgery approval on October 20th. My surgeon had a scheduling conflict, so we've agreed not to do the surgery till December 6th. But that's soon enough!

Good luck!

Dave

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
