question for the ladies

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if any of you experienced a change in your cycle after being banded. I'm usually regular as clockwork, I have four children and other than when I was expecting them I have only missed one period in my life.

I'm about 4 days late. There was only one time I could have conceived, and that was 3 days ago. I had cramping, the usual back ache, leg aches, all over lethargy and headaches that I normally get, and my face even broke out a little. I had one little tiny bit of spotting.

I had my surgery on Nov. 14th and actually had my period then. I'm wondering if losing 25 lbs in one month has interfered with my cycle. The only other factor is that I started a new medication about a week after surgery, an anti depressant called lexapro.

I'm trying not to freak out...I think it might be too early for a pregnancy test, but I'll probably get one tomorrow.

Any info that you could share would be appreciated. I'm a little nervous!

If you had insulin resistance at all prior to banding losing a bit of weight could actually resolve that and effect your cycle...

I'm also on Lexapro but I haven't noticed a change since taking it...I take that back I have spotted a bit more but didn't attribute it to the Lexapro...

I have however noticed that I'm spotting more this month since being banded and I did have IR...maybe it is from my insulin regulating and I know I'm not pregnant unless it's immaculate conception...

I'll be interested to hear what other's have experienced.

Well, I got a pregnancy test today and it was negative. *whew* A baby wouldn't be the worst thing in the world...I guess, but I'm relieved all the same.

I think I'm missing it because I've lost 25 lbs in just a few weeks.

I am wondering if anyone else ever had this happen.

Jennye, how do you like the lexapro? I feel pretty good on it. Sometimes I would just get so down...and now I feel normal, myself again.

I don't know if I was insulin resistant or not. With the birth of my last child, 18 mos ago, I had gestational diabetes, which I was able to control with diet alone.

Linda,

Glad to hear your happy about not being pregnant! It would be hard with being recently banded.

If you had gestational diabetes there is a good chance that you are/were Insulin Resistant...IR is the step before diabetes usually.

I feel really good on Lexapro...I was on Prozac Weekly for a few years and was always moody and tired...I do feel alot better since starting the Lexapro...

My best friend just got a prescription for it so I'll be really interested to see it working...she's been very irritable for a while and finally she said she was going to try it...

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
