I got my surgery date Thursday and it is set for September 21st. I am so excited and nervous as I am sure many people are. I have to be on a 1200 calorie diet till the 19th then I am on full liquids till surgery which is two days. I started the 1200 calorie diet today and I have such guilt because I did so great and then blew it tonight and ended up at 1700 calories for the day. Now in the past that would be awesome to stay at 1700 calories but, I am just nervous that its my first day and I have already gone over. I am probably being too hard on myself but it just makes me question my willpower. I will try not to dwell on it and start a new day tomorrow. Just wanted to vent.

Hi Melissa, I too have just received my surgery date, September 27th. I am yet to start me pre opp diet but can only imagine that its hard. I have been told I must try to eat only 3 pints of skimmed milk and 2 yogurts a day.

You have to keep going tomorrow is another day and it will be a better one. Keep up the good work and good luck :bored:

Tomorrow is another day! 500 extra calories your first day isn't going to kill your pre-op diet and you're doing well so far! I'm sure it's hard to cut calories that low that quick.

Keep up the good work!

I think the key here is damage mitigation. What could you have done to reduce the calories you ate? My issue when on a diet is getting hungry between meals; so what would be some good Snacks? A cup of premade chicken stock is only about 25 calories; suger free popsicles (I prefer crystal light brand) 15 cal; salsa like 15 cal for 2 tablespoons. Since I usually have a long time between lunch and dinner (and work out in between); I've found single serving fat free fruited greek yogurt to be a great snack (140 cal, and hight in Protein. I do add splendra to combat the sourness).

Mt surgery date is also the 21st... Don't beat yorself up over it. I have been on 900 calories since 8/31 and we went out to dinner tonight and I had a cheeseburger and fries...so we are still human and give in to temptations. remember tommorrow is another day... Good luck to you.

My surgery date is scheduled for the 21st too! I have to be on a 15 day, all liquid diet, with no sugar. I've been on Bariatric Advantage Protein Shakes for 5 days .... 10 more to go. I was only having 3 shakes a day (480 calories total) but started adding in soy milk or peanutbutter for more calories and Protein as I seemed to be feeling rather weak this morning. Also having (all sugar-free) popsicles, Jello, gum and mints, iced tea and tons of Water. It's hard!! But have already lost a few pounds this week. I know it will be worth it ... you CAN do this!!!

I don't think you can ever be to informed on anything. The more research and digging you do for info, the more comfortable you will be with the procedure.. Just my opinion...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
