Banded today all by myself!!!

Recommended Posts

You are so awesome. I'm thankful that you were able to do it without help. You should be extremely proud of yourself this by no means is an easy surgery. Good for you motivating yourself to get your walking in. I was banded on Monday NO one knows at work I lied as well. My husband has helped tremendously have a one year old son who I could not care for without help.

@bobthedog - You can defintelly do it! I am getting some much needed alone time anyway while i am recovering instead of ppl around, its actually kinda nice. My job is really stressful and I travel alot so this has been a change. Just get everything ready b4 surgery!

I cleaned my entire apt, did ALL laundry (a feat for me), rented some movies, got 2 books, stocked up on my Water, SF Jello, protien shakes, broth, Gas-X, chewy Vitamins...you know the "start up kit" for us bandsters!

I'm not gonna lie, i was scared and it was a little lonely lieing in the hospital bed all by myself waiting for surgery. But all the nurses were super cool and hung out with me a little extra i think. Especially in recovery...God bless em!

Anyway, day 2 is over... gas still isn't, gross. (never in my wildest dreams would i have thought about it so much). I do love my liquid hydrocodone though! :( Is that wrong? lol, it makes me sleep and when I sleep...no gas pain!

@losethemess - I guess we're both a couple of liars!!! Oh well. My coworkers are wonderful and i really do love them. I just didn't want all the "expections" and looks, whispers, blah blah blah.... I just wanted this to be for ME, and nobody else ya know? I can't imagine doing this with a little one crawling/walking around...you're the brave one!!! Good luck to you!

I am very impressed by your courage! I don't think I could have done it without the support of my family, but I'm also a big baby.

Here's hoping that your gas pain is short lived. For me, it was by FAR the worst part of my recovery.

I live by myself as well and didn't tell anyone about my surgery. This was an interesting challenge because I went back to work not even 2 days after my surgery and I also had to care for my two dogs as well as myself alone.

You are really strong. At some points it can be hard, but I almost prefer doing things like this alone.

Since my first surgery I have had many others ( more than 6 surgeries) and I have done it all by myself now it is just routine to me lol

Stay strong and keep well :smile2:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
