Are you getting enough Protein? hair falling out in chunks is a symptom of not enough protein.

PROTEIN! Sounds like you need to revaluate your Protein intake. Your hair tends to fall out when you drop below your recommended daily allowance. If you increase your protein intake and continue to have this problem, I would meet with the nutritionist and your doc to see if there are other problems. For instance, my hair was falling out by the wads and it turned out I had a major thyroid issue.

Just make sure you start with protein, the prenatal Vitamins are great, then check with your doc!:)

yikes!! talk to your dr or nutritionist. I did ask my nutritionist about it and she said it was not Protein and it doesnt happen to everyone, but some people after a significant weight loss will lose hair for a few weeks, but it does stop and grow back. she suggested taking Biotin supplements and nioxin Shampoo you can get from hair dresser!

My hair started thinning so I went to the dermatologist. He said, much to my relief, I wasn't going to go bald. He said your body goes into a state of shock after rapid weightloss. I was lucky to start out with a thick head of hair. Your hairloss should stop in a few months.

Believe me its not always a Protein issue and I can attest to that. It could be from a whole host of issues, but mostly likely is from the shock you body is going through to losing weight and the surgery it self. My hair is still falling out by the gobs full and I now have a thinning bald spot on the top of my head. Oh well. I am hoping it grows back. I get protein up the waaazooo and take supplements like crazy....met with a nutrtionist as well as a dermatologist...ha..go figure...no luck but to hope it comes to a end soon....Thank Goodness I had thick hair to begin with, however it is very very thin and stringy now......Good Luck....Keep your chin up..

the same thing happened to me 2 months after surgery. Nioxin Shampoo, conditioner, and a intensive therapy gel has helped grow new hair fast. I also found Biotin supplements in sublingual (i can't get a pill down-they're large)at myvitanet.com. My hair dresser said no heat (hair dryer etc) and no ponytail until the hairloss slows. Hope this helps.

The hair growth cycle is interrupted by surgery. We tend to hold onto hairs we would have lost, slowly each day, for a period of time. Then BAM! All of them (and more) seem to come out, all at once. The "shedding" period can last a few months, too.

If you're not getting enough Protein,it's worth adding more. It's also worth taking a good bariatric Multivitamin and zinc and Biotin supplements. And using Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner.

These things may or may not help--but at least they make us feel as though we've got the best odds.

But I've done ALL of these things, and still have lost plenty of hair. I think it is slowing down now.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
