Hi, my name is myra and i leave in nwi. My doctor referred me to dr. Stanish at methodist hospital in merrillville, indiana. My bmi is 51 and i dont have no health issues but my obesity and my insurance doesnt cover this so self pay is my only option. They said it will be around $19,000 and almost passed out when they told me. Does anyone know a good medical finance place i can go to? I wanted this surgery in my early twenties and now that i am in my late twenties i feel like it will never happen for me.

You should shop around, I paid $10,200 in Dallas. There are 2 medical finance companies that I know about, Carecredit and Cap one. The Dr office that you use will have information for you.

Hi! I had checked carecredit before and kinda scared me with all the negative comments but I will check it out once more and also cap one too. I hope to find a good deal like yours. Thanks

Hi :)

Just wanted to put your mind at ease about Mexico--I went and am 5 weeks post op. I had an absolutely wonderful experience (well..as far as surgery goes lol), no complications whatsoever.

My insurance is covering all of the followup care--you might want to check with your insurance and see if you self-paid if they would cover all of the care when you get home. If not, there is a place called Fill USA that can refer you to a doc in your area. My doc in Mexico has a network of docs in almost every state that he deals with that will provide his follow up care. My Mexican doc also would offer free fills for life if I needed them..

Might be worth checking into! :w00t: If you do decide to go to Mexico, just do lots of research before picking one out to make sure they are a good one..If you would like more info, you can leave me a msg

Cindy

Obesity Law and Advocacy Center

Walt Lindstrom (I think that's his name) specializes in Obesity Law and insurance and related cases. It's free to contact him. He is a lap-band patient himself.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
